She's only a month old so give it sometime. Most babies start off with straight hair and then it'll eventually curl up. My hair is curly and my husband's hair is straight and so far my son's hair is still straight and he's 8 months. My nephew who is also biracial had straight hair until he was about nine or ten months, it's been curly since and he's two now.

My daughter also started off with straight dark hair and became a light brown with curls around 5 or 6 months.

I don't think she was being ignorant. I'm pretty sure she knows Mexicans come in a variety of shades and mixes. She may have simply meant as far back as they can tell his lineage has been Mexican i.e. he's born in Mexico, his parents and his grandparents and maybe even his great grandparents. She also classified herself as American and I'm pretty sure like all Americans she has a mixture of ethnicities in herself yet you didn't get defensive about that. And for the record you shouldn't accuse anyone of what YOU think they meant.

To Rachel, below, what does "full" Mexican mean to you? Do you believe all Mexicans are the same mix, or the same color, exct. Not all Mexicans are dark brown or even brown. There are ::gasp:: White Mexican people, Asians, Jewish, German, French. Just because you have seen a very small portion of the population does not mean that you can use the term "full mexican". VERY ignorant. Just say that he is a dark Indian/Spanish Mexican, or Mexican-American. Americans really need to educate themselves on race vs. nationality.

There hair changes a lot over time. My DD was born with straight black hair. And now she's almost 3 years old and it's a medium brown with a curl/wavey but it is still thin.. Me and SO both have curly hair and thick. He is full mexican and I am american..

My son hair was straight when he was born, and curled when it was wet; at the age of about 4 ½ 5months it was curly all the time. Do defiantly give it time, I bet her hair will be curly :-0)
