Children that are Philipino/White

My 12 year old daughter is having a hard time with other children who seem to find her racial difference amusing. She is constantly being told she's this race or that race. When she tells them she's Philipino/White, her peers laugh and tell her there's no such thing. She's getting frustrated and I get absolutely NO help of support from the school systems. They just tell me it's kids being kids. Is my daughter suppose to live with this torment? What is a mother to do?

Hello, my name is Calder. My wife has two full filipino children and together we have a filipino-white boy. Racism is very aparent in the world and for the rest of you daughters life there will be people who are extremely racist towards her. The best thing that you could do for her is to let her know you are there. The school-board will most likely do nothing to rectify the situation because I myself was in that position when I attended school. Another advice that I might add would be to have a discussion with the parents of the child/children who are bullying your child. But be careful when meeting up with the parents of these children because as the school-board says "kids being kids" is not the case. Racism starts from somewhere and it starts with the parents and their parents. It is very difficult to deal with the problem of racism on your own but as long as you are a loving parent and try to be beside her that is all that matters.

Sincerely: Calder Bourque
