I consider myself part of an interracial couple. Just wondering, does that term historically refer to a "white" person with a "non-white" person? I'm new in this circle and noticed most of the couples are "white/non-white". Any other types in the circle? (No disrespect to any members)

Two people of a different race who are together as a couple. Thats how i define it. I think interracial couples make the most beautiful babies :)

How am I attacking you? I haven't said anything mean, all I did was question your logic. Wow grow up, thought we were adults having a discussion, sorry being questioned is attacking in your book. Because my posting is not in favor of yours I'm attacking you?...Let me leave you be before you try and get me kicked off. Good luck with your Social Studies degree.

yes, I filled out my own census form, I put dowm irish mix as race! I live in ireland that is a box....

and British as my nationality because thats what passport I hold...

And I live with my huband and son (?) Haven't lived with my parents in years....

I had a dictionary in front of me.... an oxford dictionary!

I find your message abusive and as though you are attacking me.

I took the time, (and checked the dictionary before I ans in case I was wrong, but it just confirmed that I was right.)

check you r own dictionary. You are talking about the four groups of races. There are many races inside each group.

and I have a degree in social studies so i do know what I am talking about.....

I really don't have time to give u a history lesson but seriously u need to look it up and see that they are all considered WHITE. Did u fill out your 2010 census. Maybe not cuz u may still live with your parents idk. Under race there are 4 categories WHITE, BLACK, ASIAN, and they recently added HISPANIC as a race. My fiance's race is Hispanic, his ethnicity is Puerto Rican, his nationality is American. Get it? Irish, Scottish and English are ethnicities, that are defined under the CAUCASIAN/WHITE race. Its really hard to a lot of people to understand. I know the definiton's of the words without having to go online and copy and paste lol Wasn't trying to argue, just point out that your logic is flawed and needs to be reevaluated. Not trying to argue, I could care less about ur family I just hate when people don't take the time to distinguish between, Race, Ethnicity and Nationality. I also know its a touchy subject...Have a good one :)

I'm white and my son's dad is white/maori.
He isn't dark though, & our son just looks 100% white.

I'm Black and my fiance is Puerto Rican, our son's mix is pretty common around her in NYC

Jane according to race, your parents are NOT an interracial couple. There are 4 Races, WHITE, BLACK, ASIAN, and HISPANIC...your parents are both white. The have different ethnic backgrounds but are not of a different race. Sorry just had to point that out. People seem to get race and ethnicity confused A LOT! So you are not biracial.

I have always dated hispanic men until recently my boyfriend now is black and i really have to honestly say that i dont even notice color..i am white by tha way..i simply fell in love wit this man and color is not even a issue to me...my oldest daughter however, is not as color blind..never rude or disrespectful, however she doesnt think black and white should be together..when i ask her about mexican and white she says thats fine..i dont think she realizes its tha same thing...lol..its funny to me anyways...it was just odd how my child did not think mexican/white was inter-racial ...

LOL..well, I am white and my partner is Jamaican. When we travel outside of Toronto to the more rural areas, we joke about the same sorts of things. We get a lot of looks but you just have to shrug it off, not everyone stares for the wrong reasons. I have a lot of friends also in "interacial" relationships. They range from Indian with Russian, Portugese with Jewish (not sure if that's counted as a race, but they do), white with African (Nigerian) and tonnes of others. We are all with our partners for the same reason...love.

I am east Indian and my husband is Canadian (white). My daughter, though with my dark eyes is very fair...we joke when I am with the 2 of them that I am the nanny...so politically incorrect but whatever :-)

It is nice to see the variety in this group. I am African American and my husband is hispanic. I get asked all the time if he is my son. We don't really dwell on the race thing much but my mom sure doesn't like it.

Its good to see other representation. The funny thing is it makes all of us who love for the sake of loving seem more unified and progressive.

I agree with everyone else. Interracial couples come from all types of background combinations. I definitely consider myself to be in an interracial marriage; I'm black and my husband is Puerto Rican. I will admit that I try not to dwell on the racial lines too much. As long as you are happy in your relationship, it doesn't matter what color your skin is. It's just too bad the rest of the world doesn't see it that way.

An interracial couple can be from any combination of backgrounds. I think you just see more white people represented because they're the biggest ethnic group in the english-speaking countries from which this group gets members. That's why you'll also see more blacks and hispanics than say, Native Americans, or Arabs for example, they're a bigger population. If you consider yourselves an interracial couple that's all that really matters anyway. And welcome to the group!

I'm native American(cherokee) and my husband is hispanic(Mexican). Neither of our families wanted us to marry because of each others race, they're okay with it now, but it took a while. Our children ask us all the time "what they are". They've come up with "Mindian" all on their own. So that's what they say when their friends or someone in town asks, and they get asked alot.

I was wondering the same thing! My son is half white/half mexican, so on some forms it says "white/hispanic" or "white/not hispanic" meaning that hispanic is white? so he's not technically bi-racial??? And yet, I get a LOT of comments and questions about his race because I am very fair and he looks like his dad. Race is such a confusing thing!

A couple with two people from different racial backgrounds. So, for example a Black/Asian couple would certainly qualify. I don't see why one of the people would need to be White.
