I am a white mother of a white and african-american little girl and I have no idea how to do her hair. I am not a very girly girl type person but my daughter even though she is only 2 is having very girly tendencies. I want to be able to do her hair and show her how to do her hair when she gets older in case she is interested in that. Does anybody know of a good web site that shows how to do hair for mixed kids with step by step instructions or any other ideas? Appreciate any help thank you.

Don't know any web sites but I have a few tips to offer. I have a multi racial son and am multi racial myself. You didn't mention what her hair is like but most 1/2 black 1/2 white girls have similar hair textures. Probably very thick and curly. First don't wash her hair too much it will dry it out. At this age don't put heat or perms in her hair will damage it pretty quickly. When you do wash her hair a good detangler shampoo and conditioner would be a good idea. Let the conditioner sit in her hair for a while in the tub and then come it out with the conditioner still in it. After you wash the conditioner out come through it again. I would style her hair while it is still wet. Easiest styling would be to part her hair in two or four sections and pull them into tight, but not too tight ponytails. If her hair isn't long enough for this yet should hopefully be useful information as she gets older. Also you may be tempted to use gels or mousse on her but I wouldn't, but a little grease, moisturizes or defrizzer is fine. I hope this helps.

Hi Erana, maybe you could try what my some of my friends have done. Take your daughter to salon (that specializes in her texture), ask if they can teach you. Maybe ask another parent at daycare or work to show you? Any friends that have similar hair texture? One of my close friends is now an expert at doing her 10 y/o daughter's VERY kinky hair.

Have you tried zig zags? What about simple pony tails? Try simple styles before you tackle harder ones so you can get the hang of doing girly styles. Try parting her hair in half, using half of her hair in a pony tail. Eventually you will get creative and come up with different ideas. I work in a school so I ask girls with cute styles I like to let me look at their hairstyles all the time. They think I am silly, but like the attention! LOL! I do tell them why I am looking at it and even ask how their mom does it! I have gotten great ideas and made up some of my own from looking at different styles in person. Sorry, maybe that is not so helpful, but if you ever have playdates with other girls try asking their moms how they do their hair if you like a style. Hope that helps!
