My baby is mixed white and black, she will be 1 next month and her skin is still white. Is there a chance that her skin will get any darker or is there a certain age that you know that will be the color they stay? I haven't been around any mixed babies that are as light skinned as her, so i don't know what to expect.

Im half and half too and my oldest is 3/4 black and looks like me, but with straight hair. My 1 year old is same mix as his brothet but white with blond curly hair and blue eyes. Genetics is a funny thing, isn't it? Lol

I have 6 bi-racial grandchildren. If you look at the skin pigment around the nails when they are babies, that's a close proximity to the skin color they will be.

My oldest is very white & has green eyes, my middle son looks more mixed & my daughter is light with almost black eyes, she looks more hispanc at times than white & black. Can't wait to see what our newest addition will look like. All children will look different. They are who they are, don't worry about their color.

My son is a week and a half old and when he came out, i remember being a bit confused on how light he was and how straight his hair is. I don't care what colour his skin was just a little shocked since the father is so dark. However, you never know what they will end up looking like until they get older.

If she is turning one then I wouldn't expect it to get much darker. I am mixed the same and I was born pink but my skin changed within a few weeks. Mixed or even black children can be very light or dark. I have 3 brothers, 1 very light, one tanned, one darker and I am darker as well. I also have a black cousin who is very light :)

At birth, the doctor said you have a boy but he is white and for the first year, he was very fair. I find with my son that when we live in South Africa he is tan all the time because he spends much of his time outside, but when we live in NYC or the UK he goes back to being paler.

My baby has all of my features (I'm peach and her dad is brown) but she is her daddy's twin. she is Mariah Carey's color with brown lightly curlly hair. My doc said that what ever color a baby's ears are, thats what color they will remain and that is true so far. she has been that color for 4 months now with no change in sight. but it really doesnt matter to me, i love her no matter what color she is :)

I am not even really sure why this would matter my kids are biracial and a few their full black cousins are lighter then they are. Genes are what they are some things from way back pop up here and there....

My daughter is 1/2 black and 1/2 white. I waited for her to darken up, but after 15 years she's still as white as me, maybe lighter, with green eyes like me and brown kinky hair. She looks like a white version of her father with my skin, eye and hair color. My other 2 kids don't look like they have any white in them but they have small features of mine. That's the great thing about genes. You get so many mixtures and God always finds such beautiful combinations that are different with each one.

I don't know if he'll change but so far his complexion is light, has brown hair like me but texture is like his fathers, still has his grey eyes my eyes are a chestnut color his fathers are hazel and my pops are green so we'll see what color they will turn :-). So far he looks just straight up Hispanic and sometimes Mexican lol :-D

I have 3 bi-racial girls. My youngest is 7 months and I can tell now that she is the fairest of them all. Fair skin, light hair, and eyes. Babies that young are still pink and their skin is very thin. She might be fair with more African features (like my youngest). You just have to wait and see as the beauty unfolds either way.

My cousin Erin is super light like that and can easily pass for Caucasian which is fine because her dad is. She has been like that from the start and she's about 8 now. My sister Jacqueline has been bright white all her life and she in her 20's. You just never know. Either way, it doesn't matter, we love them both, whether they "darken" up or not cause they belong to us...:)

what a cute picture. Skin color of mixed children shouldn't really matter any way. Your daughter is about the color of my cousin, she may be a bit tanner though. Both my cousin's parents are Black though. That's what's funny he's Black (not biracial) and very light, so you never know how someone is going to turn out. there are many genes that go into the color of skin polygenic inheritance. I've seen mixed babies that are very dark, sometimes darker than me (both my parents are black) and I've seen some very light, it can either way. Doesn't really matter at the end of the day because skin color is so diverse.

I only have 1 son - 5 months old. I am very fair skinned, green eyes, black hair (white). My fiance has black hair, caramel-y chocolate (lol) skin, and almost black eyes (black). Our son came out white but within about 2 months he got pretty dark. He has black hair and almost black eyes. .y fiance used to joke that I wasn't his mom - he was just light-Skinned black haha. Everyone thought he was going to be so white like me but hey that's the beauty of genetics.

My daughter is probably the lightest mixed child I've ever seen! I am white and her dad is black ad he is not that light, he is pretty brown-skinned, but I am very pale, so I guess she takes after me. She looks like her dad feature wise, she is just really light. A lot of people ask if she is Spanish because of her complexion and curly hair, but it doesn't bother us. Every mixd child is different and unique! I used to hope she'd get a little darker when she was young, but she is almost 4 now and as light as the day she was born! Some babies change as they get older, but if yours doesn't, just accept it.

Simple answer...you never know till it works itself out. Both my kids were born looking white. My daughter has darkened but still has straight hair. My son is quite light with reddish curly hair. I assume they will continue to change as they grow older.

My advice is love your baby, tell her that she's beautiful, point out the features that make her the wonderful blend that she is and don't allow others to tell you what she should look like as a mixed race child!

Jessica - posted on 03/23/2012

Well since there are white genes and black genes present, you never know what skin color the babies will turn out with. I don't think she isn't happy with her "white skin" but she is just wondering if she will get darker. Don't worry either way, she is still who she is no matter what she might look like to those who don't know her. Look at Mariah Carey. I know her dad was bi racial but she doesn't look it at all really. Just depends on which genes God makes stronger in certain genetic make ups.

there are a multitude of genes that go into skin color, there's no one gene, so your child could be any color. It's not uncommon for babies of african-mixed descent to get darker as they get older. But the most important thing is that it doesn't matter what color the baby is, as I'm sure you know. Whether the baby is dark or light doesn't matter. Skin color change all the time, but the most important thing is the child has a firm identity internally.

I have two little boys who are mixed race, their daddy is of black origin and i am very fair white skin, blue eyes with freckles, my first born was born as white as me and it was only when he got to a year old that he developed lovely olive skin and afro hair he is now four, my youngest has wavy light brown hair, dark brown eyes and very fair skin, but he has a very dark brown birth mark on his body he is nearly three and i just think he takes after me for skin tone, he wil never get any darker, i often get funny looks when people realise they are brothers as they look totally different

but genetics are a wonderful and.i love my babies the way they are. I have friends who's children are half black and white and they are so much darker than my boys are, its nice to hear that its is not just my children that are mixed race and fair skin, :0) i love them to the world and back :0) i often think people sterio type and think that just because i have jad a baby with a black british male and i am white the baby should be really dark skinned with tight curly hair

It depends on whose genes are more dominant, yours or that of your significant other. My oldest took after his dad as far as skin color is concerned. My youngest took after me.

I hope no one minds me asking but when a child is 1/2 black and 1/2 white do they usually get the hair texture of the black side?

All the biracial kids I know have the really thick african american hair. Just wondered if they all have hair like this?

Your baby is beautiful. But, you must be looking at her thru rose colored glasses because your baby's skin is not white. She is clearly black. Caramel colored but black. Wow how could you not see that? I have a mixed race child and her skin is whiter than mine (I'm Irish) so I was googling when her skin darkens and run across you lol saying your kid's got white skin when she doesn't wow

There is a biracial family (black/white) in England and they have 3 kids. One looks like a typical mix. One looks all black. One looks all white (blond hair blue eyes, even). They are used as genetic study subjects because of the variable of the way the kids turned out. So interesting.

So, what does that tell you? That your baby can be any shade! :-) Kids do darken over time, but by a year or so, you should get a good idea of the color.

My family is Irish/dutch, my husband is black - but not very dark. I had no idea how dark my baby would turn out, and she is pretty dark, almost as dark as her dad now and she's only 8 months old. And, if we had another, that baby could be as pasty as me! LOL LOVE genetics - so interesting.

My daughter is very light skinned for a mixed baby! You can see her picture on my profile. I am white and VERY fair skinned and her dad is black, not really dark, but brown skinned...she looks just like him and has all of his features, but is SO light! Everyone always says to him, "She looks just like you, just white!" I have bi-racial nieces and nephews and they are all different shades, but my daughter is by far the lightest! She is going to be 2 in 2 months and I know she isn't getting any darker, but I love her exactly how she is and so does her daddy! That's what matters!

some mixed babies stay very light( or white), there really is no certain age i dont think. my daughter is 16 now, she is faily dark, i know exposure to sunlight will darken a fair colored child. I have a friend with all mixed kids they have great skin tone, the last one she had is with a different father, he is pretty light, so her daughter is white and is now four, you cant tell she is mixed at all

Anyway my son is really light, You might be able to see from my profile pic. Is it correct to say that most mixed babies darken over time?? When do mixed babies get their color?
