My baby is mixed white and black, she will be 1 next month and her skin is still white. Is there a chance that her skin will get any darker or is there a certain age that you know that will be the color they stay? I haven't been around any mixed babies that are as light skinned as her, so i don't know what to expect.

My 1 year old is just as pale as I am! His dad is a carmel color so I didn't think he was going to be too dark but thought he might have a little more color! He also has dark blonde/light brown hair!
My family laughs because my father and my all white niece are darker than my bi-racial baby!
He is beautiful and we are patiently waiting to see what his little brother will look like here in a few weeks!

I asked my doctor that question when my twins were born, he told me that on average by the age of 18 months, they will have the color they will keep, of course, the sun will change that, but the majority will stay the same... My girls are 12 now and they did keep that deep caramel color that does get darker in the summer, I love it! We as white women spend hours in the sun or in a tanning booth paying for color and my girls are simply born with it!!

She could. I have a nephew that is also half black half white and he is just starting to get some black features. He is going to turn 12 or 13 this year. But it all depends on how strong the genes are.

it depends on the mixture im half black and half white and im very light but my dad is black but has medium skin so i guess that helps determine how dark she will get but my son is 3/4 black and 1/4 white and the just got some color and he is 13 mnths but he came out really pale and stayed that way for a while because alot of people didnt know he was mixed!

My daughter, who is mixed white and black, was pretty dark when she was born and stayed dark. She gets real dark in the summer. It's so cute!! She has dark brown eyes and dark curly hair, but I do have to laugh cause she has some red highlights in it...I think that's about all the white she has in her! Now my stepson has been pale and hazel eyed since he was little (his father and I have been together since he was almost 1). He darkens a little in the summer and his eyes have gotten a littler darker but they are more hazel than dark brown. From the mixed babies I have been around, usually what ever color they start as is a good idea of how dark they are going to get.

Heather, I have two daughters ages 17 and 20. My 20 year old got a little darker by age two and is the same shade now. My 17 year old was much, much lighter at birth and her color did not change at all. Both are exotic (as described by many) and in no time at all, you will not even think about their skin color. Enjoy her! P.S. My oldest, at age nine and in a cute way described herself to a friend as an "Oreo Baby" with a smile.

some mixed babies stay very light( or white), there really is no certain age i dont think. my daughter is 16 now, she is faily dark, i know exposure to sunlight will darken a fair colored child. I have a friend with all mixed kids they have great skin tone, the last one she had is with a different father, he is pretty light, so her daughter is white and is now four, you cant tell she is mixed at all

When my daughter was born the top of her ears were dark and her ear lobes were white. It was really cute. She has evened out for the most part. To me some days she looks lighter and some days she looks darker lol. She's my daughter and i love her the way she is. I'm not sure how she'll look as she gets older. I've seen babies that came out dark and lightened up and i've seen gets come out light and got darker.

Don't worry! Like everyone has said, she will probably gain her color in a few months. My last son was born and he was white but his finger tips were tan. My husband is African and I am biracial so I was suprised he was so light. I lloked at my mother a said "He's white" thank God my mom looked at my husband and said " I am white too." It made him feel better! My children were all born different shades as the hit 1 year their color has stayed the same. My oldest is 13 and was very light but today he is almost my color!

Her cuticles and the top of her ears will tell you her final and darkest color. Mariah Carey and Halle Barry are both 1/2 black and 1/2 white. They are on opposite sides of the color spectrum. Alicia Keys is too and she is somewhere in the middle.
Don't worry about it. No matter what color she'll be, she'll be.

My daughter's father is a caucasian and hispanic and I am a darker-skinned african american...my daughter is just now getting a little darker now that she is in the sun.But during the colder months and spring she was considered a "red" girl annd alot of people assumed that I was her babysitter r something. When I had her they assumed she was asian.I say this because they're all so new.Once they grow up the last concern will be their color. They change and develop their own everything.

Ok how do I explain this, pls be patient with me. I was born in Canada but my mom is west indian brown and my dad is mixed with brown and black. My husband was born in Scotland and his mom is white and his father is Algerian. So my son has quite the mixture there. When he was born he was really white. Now at 3 years of age he is more of a mocha color. Yet he gets dark during the summer months.

My son started getting his color around 3 months. Granted your baby's skin color does depend on 2 different factors 1) genetics 2) how much they are out in the son. You can't really rely on the skin color of the darker parent. For example, I have friends who have dads that are African-American and are very dark. My friends came out with very light skin and still have it to this day. Plus, I myself am mixed (black and white) and had a baby with a white man and our baby came out looking Indian even though he is basically 75% white. So its usually genetics (big factor) and how much your baby is out in the son that matters. Don't look at the darker parent as a comparison. Hope this helps!

I have two bicultural children, one is 18yrs old & the other is 16yrs old, one a boy 7 one a girl & they are both fair skinned in the winter & tan nicely in the summer. I have many friends with bicultural children as well & mine are by far the palest out of the bunch so it just depends.

I am half black/half white, my husband is white. Our eldest daughter was born a beautiful honey colour with jet black hair which unfortunately had to be shaved off as she was a bit ill. Anyway, when her hair started growing back in it was blonde! She is white with blonde hair and hazel eyes, she tans nicely in the summer. Our youngest daughter is the same colour as me with the same hair, dark eyes and everything. Its a lottery which genes are going to end up in your baby!!

Well sounds funny but, look around her fingernails and tip of her ears, if they are slighty darker, that is as dark as she'll get. I am black and my son is bi-racial, but he came out white with red hair, go figure. He gets a nice glow going in the summer though

There is no guarantee that a baby will darken or get "their color". They have the color their genes express. They may tan or they may not. Is this really an issue for a lot of parents? There seems to be some concern about whether a kid will darken or not. I'm not trying to judge, but I'm curious about why this is important.

My son is mixed and i don't think he'll get much lighter because his dad is so pale and doesn't tan really well. I have alot of mixed relatives as well and most of them didn't get darker until they were much older. Some are still quite pale. It depends on the child i guess.

I'm bi-racial (mexican and black) and my 3 year old twin girls have a white father. One is golden brown with blonde/brown hair and the other has dark brown hair with very pale skin. Both have blue eyes. There is simply no way of telling what will happen. My son was really pale until he turned 3 or 4. Now he looks sunkissed. I'm just glad they are all healthy.

Hi, I have an 8 month old mixed daughter. When she was born she was very pale. Her great grandmother on her daddies side (the black side) said to look at the color of her cuticles, and ears. She said that you can see how dark a child will be by the color of there cuticles. I don't know if it is always true, but she was right about my daughter, and she had 12 kids and 36 grand kids herself, so I usually listen when she talks. I hope you find this helpful.

Africa) told me not to worry she'll get her color in a few months. Well, the months came and went but the color never did. :) She is 7 years old now and just beautiful the way she is!
