my 3 month old daughter has lighter "patches" of skin on her arms, is this normal?? I'm hoping it will all even out but I'm not sure. She was very fair when she was born and is now darkening up a lot. Any ideas???

My 2 lil ones had that as well. I have notice this year I haven't seen it on them. they usually get it on their cheeks during winter. I did ask the doctor and they said it was the skin disease that michael jackson has. they loose the pigment. But now that they are 5&6 Its really not there anymore. They would tell me if it itched to put head and shoulders on it because of somthing with the chemicals in the head and shoulders.

My daughter had that at about 8 months -   She was olive complexed when she was born.  it turned out to be exema- Try to keep her skin hydrated- use lotion without alcohol and i used hydrocortizone cream mixed with the lotion if you see little bumps.

My daughter has vitiligo-it's an autoimmune disorder. She has white spots on various areas of her body. The condition poses no harm to her health. The spots can continue showing up. She hasn't had any new spots in awhile. What happens is that your body actually attacks the cells that pigment the color of your skin. My daughter actually had a large mole on her back and now the mole is gone and in it's place is a white spot. The texture of the skin is normal, not rough or dry, just no pigmentation.

Both of my kids have eczema and it causes them to have those lighter patches. My daughter only got it on her arms and legs and my son only on his face. Now my daughter is 6 and has started getting it on her face too but my son hardly ever gets break outs anymore. You should let the pedi take a look at it though on her next well visit just to make sure it's not something else.

my daughter white/black had eczema when she was about a month old and the doctors told me to bath her one to two times a week and use cream or powder but i decided along with the help of my partners mother that i should bath her every night with sudocream or Aqueous cream and then reapply when out of the bath a few weeks and it all had dissapeared now she has beautiful clear skin, i found that sudocream is good for everything its always in my bag.

I agree with Joanna my daughter has eczema you have to be careful how much you bath her. Try not to use soap. I use cetaphil cream the doctor said to use. Some of the spots have started to lighten. You may want to have this checked out, before they can start scratching. I did not and now she has scares on her legs.

Hello, my daughter goes through stages of white patchy blotchy patches on her skin. I took her to a dermatologist and she gave her a RX cream and said that it is a skin virus. This virus is very common, doesn't hurt, doesn't transfer to others, but it is very noticeable on her color of skin because she is darker. The cream worked wonders after putting it on twice a day for a few weeks and the best advice she has for the future is to make sure that she wears sunscreen when the sun is out. I guess that it is a totally common issue with children of color. I was just happy to find out that it was so easy to fix. Hope that helps. Your pediatrician should be able to give you an RX for something instead of paying the dermatologist fees.

My oldest son had eczema, and it did go away, the spots didn't get darker in the summer like he did, so he had the spots on his face. His got better, but we used Eucerin cream.

My daughter is also white/Black and very fair when she was born. She has Eczema on her inner arms and behind the knees and sometimes back of her neck. Don't know if your daughter's skin is blotchy like discoloration or rash. My daughters skin turns pink and when she starts to scratch it it becomes bumpy and looks like a rash. We use a cream from the doctor when it gets bad but we can control it by putting lotion on it before it gets to bad.
