I love Aveeno products as well. Aveeno bath oil (a little pricey but works well) is great. I use plain white cream (glaxal base here in Canada) and sometimes mix it with some olive or safflower oil (helps keep the skin hold its moisture). Avoid anything scented. Use senstive skin laundry soap. My hubby has allergies and asthma and eczema and my 3rd child didn't outgrow his eczema whereas the other 2 kids did. Sometimes it can be a chronic condition that's hard to manage but you have to keep on top of it. All 3 of my kids got it and 2-3 months old. Put some socks on her hands at bedtime so that she won't cut her skin open when she scratches at night. There are a lot of great products out there now for babies/people with eczema. I agree with the person who posted about the natural cotton clothing. Anything synthetic is irritating to the skin. Good luck!

For my nephews ecxema we would put hydrocortisone ONLY ON THE PATCHES it has steroids which will bleach the unaffected skin. On top of that vaseline and baby aveeno everywhere else. We lotioned his skin often during the day. As many times as it was sucked in by the skin we reapplied just the lotion not the cortisone and he has not had a patch in a long time. He is 2 1/2 now and was about a month old when diagnosed.

There have been so many conversations about eczema. The main point I want to stress is to avoid products with vaseline, petroleum, petrolatum etc. in them because they are occlusive to the skin (clog the pores) and not healthy anyway. Get a product that does not list any of those ingredients on the label. I must reccomend Arbonne Baby Care body wash, body lotion and body oil for anyone with children experiencing Eczema. I am a consultant with Arbonne and I love these products for my children. My daughter and now my son have ligth patches on their faces and the key is to keep their skin moisturized. We use Arbonne topically and I am changing their/our diets gradually to a traditional diet - see www.westonaprice.org for diet details. I am hoping with these steps we can eradicate the eczema. I hope you can too.

both of my kids had really bad dry skin, my son was the worst. We ended up using the ALL detergent free and clear to wash there clothes in. Use the Aveeno baby shampoo and body wash, not the creamy kind the clearish looking kind, AND the Aveeno baby 24hr skin protectant made with oatmeal. These are the only things that helped. We even went to an allergy doc with him and they ended up putting him on 2 meds for his skin allergies. Hope some of this helped.

Well I have a daughter who is 14 yrs old and shes had it since she was 1 month old too... There is no cure... Only meds to calm it down... Cutivate, and Eldadel r the best ones I've come across in my years... oat meal baths waste of money... Aveno brand of soap waste of time...

also: if you can get your hands on some i would try a horse-fat moisturizer (sometimes you can find them at asian supermarkets). (i know, *so not PC, right?)
when i was 11 someone brought me a jar of pure horsefat from japan and it literally made my flaky forehead ezcema melt away over a period of *days.

you might not know if it's food-related right away... many intolerances take weeks to correct themselves after the offending substance is eliminated.
i know my own eczema cleared up considerably after changing from liquid to hard soap (apparently the stabilizers they put in liquid soaps can be irritants to sensitive skin).

My daughter has horrible Eczema, ever since she was 2 months old. She use to wake up bleeding on her back, hands and ankles from scratching. She has gotten much better, but we still have issues. We use Vanicream and a steroid cream when she has breakout blotches. This has made such a big differences. :) I basically figure out that every baby is different and yu have to figure out which remedy works for you.

Good luck! I am now trying to figure out how to help her scars from all her scratching. Any advice let me know.

My son was born with eczema and we use Aveeno wash and lotion ( we lotion 2x a day) and the Aveeno oatmeal bath. We use the Gental Naturals baby eczema cream before the lotion. and when it is really bad we get a perscription for the hyrdocortizone 2.5% cream. Generally that has keep his eczema at bay and we have to cut all the tags out of his clothes and use none sented and none dyed laundry soap. We use the Arm & Hammer nautral or the purex Natural, even the baby laundry soap seemed to bother him. Good luck.

These suggestions are what I have learned based on my son's eczema. The only soap you should use is DOVE, the lotion that worked best for me was Palmer's Cocoa butter. ( I tried Aveeno, and a whole bunch of others, that didn't work) Vaseline is too thick and blocks the effect of the hydrocortizone so keep that in mind if you are applying prescribed hydrocordizone. What made the BIGGEST difference was using ONLY organic milk. A mom gave me this tip, and since I switched my son has been eczema free, (over four years now). Also ask the doctor to perform a comprehensive allergy test and keep him away from anything that he is allergic to. Good Luck!

This is ONLY my testimony! I have six children and my first child suffered with eczema terribly! I used everything the doctor's prescribed with only temporary relief! I decided to invite God into my son's health crisis and prayed for answers!

I was drawn to the bible and specifically Genesis 1:29.(including Esther 2:12, Mathew 2:11{20% of infants suffer from eczema-perhaps the Magi knew this would help}.

I studied the benefits of essential oils especially frankincense and myrrh combination because it is mentioned SO often in the bible (more than any other)! Come to find out, the medicine in these oils directly benefit eczema's harm! It is anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral! That means it was created to attack inflammation naturally! When it's applied, it's only a matter of time and seasons when eczema will be completely uncomfortable in a healthy body! By medical definition, eczema is an inflammatory disease!

I blended it with olive oil and would rub it on his skin following bath time at night. I was also drawn to wean off of dairy products like cow's milk and on to soy because it would INCREASE inflammation and skin irritation. Our family diet also began to take a turn for the better by the leading of God as I began to have a change in my desire for healthier foods.

I am telling you today that my son is eczema free! And for atleast 10 years I have not had to use synthetic creams or anything other than giving the body a balance of what it needs to BE healthy which for us includes PRAYER to the CREATOR and a LIFE lived honoring Him in every area! God bless!

I have a 26month old and she has had the problem for 5 months now!!! The doctor is useless...we have tried all different ointments and etc. and nothing seems to work....I'm starting to think this may be a food allergy...I'm going to change her doctor and ask for the new doctor to get her tested for food allergies...where is the eczema? My daughter has it around her mouth.

I feel your pain. My now four year old had it at three months. I t started as a dry light patch of skin on her cheek, then grew bigger, covering both cheeks, thighs and private area at times. We used all types of creams too. I read up about it and saw that by Three most children grow out of it. Lucky for us hers went away by age three. So until then she had short baths, loose cotton clothes, and kept her creamed up so she would feel as irritated. It is embarassing at times, When my daughters checks where chapped and bleeding I didn't want to take her anywhere because people would look at me like I was a bad mom. If people stared too long I simply told them she has Ezema. Just know that it will most likely go away.

Hi Tonja

My baby gets it ... not bad but not mild, kinda in between. He gets it on one side of his face and on his legs and ankles.

I use a soap and scent free bath milk by the brand of MOO GOO (from health stores, but I think it's only available in Australia and New Zealand).

When it flares up, I used the over the counter low dose of cortisone cream and I rub his legs with Sorbelene Cream and it does wonders.

Best of luck with it all.

Warm water is correct, if its too hot it irritates the skin further. Air dry is better than towel dry. Mild soap like Dove is the best for eczema. I use Eucerin when my daughter gets red splotchy patches and also everyday use for moisturization which is key. Good luck.

The head of Pediatric allergy and immunology told us to bathe our daughter daily in a onsie. Warm water for at least 20 min. If washing of body or hair is needed do that at the very end. Apply Vanicream (sold at Walgreens) within 3 minutes of patting dry. Have her Wear cotton breathable jammies to bed too. Also a regimineof Borage oil will help, but will take about a month to work.

might be something in your/her diet?
my son seems not to have been affected (yet), but i'm salicylate-intolerant and there are number of others (sulphite- and lactose-, gluten-, for example) that can manifest as skin issues.
if you google 'food intolerance' there's a wealth of info about it, and how it's a bit different from specific food allergies.

but definitely try the baby oil thing first. elimination diets are not fun.

hey.
my son is just 11 weeks old & he had awful eczema. my doctor gave several creama which didnt work, seemed to get worst. One day someone said to not use anything when he has a bath, just water with a little baby oil squeezed into the running water. i did that and he now has the softest skin, & no more eczema!!! sometimes lotions, creams etc can contain things that affect the skin more than heal it.... i hope this helps.
