I always see mixed kids in commercial with black families. The people are always dark the mom and dad are always dark and the other kids in the commercial but they stick a mixed kid in there. To me it looks weird. I never see an entire white family with on e mixed child. That used to upset me on the Cosby show with Denise.

That's not always true, not all kids on tv who look mixed are mixed and not all mixed kids in tv are automatically put in all black families. Madison Pettis who played the Rock's daughter in the game plan has been cast in interracial, Latino, and white families. Where as Cameron Boyce from Disney channel is usually cast as a white kid, I've only seen him in 2 roles where he was biracial and none as a black kid.

Rachael,

As a biracial man who looks more black than white, I can say you are spot on. It's not just the media but it's how others see it as well. I look black, therefore I am black. Despite my blonde hair, blue eyes mother.

I like the new trend among kids made for tv type movies. They show mixed familes all right but make no sense whatsoever. Like they will pick a caucasian dad, a black mom, have an older asian son & then a younger full caucasian sister or some crap like that & you are just thinking... yeah, how did THAT happen. LOL!! And, no, they never mention adoptions.... heheheh.

I agree with you! I didn't agree with the comment about mixed children doing better with black families necessarily. they should be where they are loved and where they can learn about all of their roots.

When I say obviously mixed I mean people who look like Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Mya and countless others.

I still feel that there should be obviously mixed kids placed with other race families as well as black families. There are mixed families everywhere and that is never shown. I'm tired of the one drop rule. I teach my girls their Irish and native American heritage as well as their black side. That's all I'm saying. I have white friends with mixed kids who have broken up with thei child's parent, then they marry a white person and have white kids. A mixed kid could fit with a white family. I've seen it many times.

And also when someone or a form of some sort asks race I mark black and white or biracial. I never post one or the other. It is important for them to appreciate their mixed heritage and understand why it is important to appreciate it. Just 50 years ago, my marriage wouldn't have been legal. We have come a long way since then....well most of us.

Well of course sometimes the child isn't always mixed and of course could have a black mom, however I do not agree that mixed children necessarily would do better with a black family. I am my children's mother and I do a very good job of teaching them of their black heritage and letting them know where they come from. Mixed children are mixed meaning black and white and one race shouldn't trump the other just because they may have darker skin. My daughters are very light actually with really curly hair, so technically they don't look more "black" than white necessarily. I just think that comment was kind of a little out of place, even if you meant just for in commercials and on tv.

i am sorry, my hair is very wavy and I am a black brownskin girl, I don't know about your family but in my own family my mother and her brothers are lightskin and brownskin and have the same mother and father. 9 kids 5 lightskin with all different hair types and 4 who are brownskin with all different hair types. Maybe your family isn't like that.

I just think it looks weird. I understand black people come in all different hues with different hair textures but usually there isn't that stark of a contrast. To me it looks as strange as if there was a black kid placed with a white family.

Just because a child looks mixed doesn't mean that they are. You have to remember that blacks in America have about 20_30 percent white blood because of slavery. I am brownskin, my sons father is brown skin, and my son came out light skin, and people were always asking were we the parents. Also, I think that a Mix child does better with a black family cause technically the child is not White, and therefore probably has or will have more in common with Black people. The Child will most likely be considered black.

I have cousins with Green Eyes, Grey Eyes and Blue Eyes brown skinned and yellow and they are all black.

I thought about that also you guys. But you have to understand blacks from North Africa and the Americas are mixed people already. SO within a black family you can get different shades of skin color and hair texture. You can't really get that with a white family unless the person looks olive and everyone else is white. So with that said a black person can create any look of the human race with being mixed with something else or just plain black that how it is for us blacks. Plus people in the world are still racist I hope there can but more mixed race kids with white families on tv. Because so many mixed race people do not look just black or in between you have some that look white or olive skin.

yeah I have seen this a lot in like diaper and kid's commercials. You can sometimes clearly tell the child is mixed but with a black family. Maybe one day the media will be bold enough to actually show a bi racial family...

because a mixed child can be be considered black but can never be considered white. it's stupid, but if you look remotely black then that's what you will be portrayed as in the media.
