I need some advice......some of the people I work with say inappropriate things regarding people of non-white ethnicity. I work in the backwoods of Ky, and I understand that some people still feel that "people should stick to their own race" but is this breaking any kind of law? Can people still say the words "colored" and "blacks" when they are in the presence of only white personsat a workplace? I just don't know what to say to these people, anyone have any advice..please????

Its really hard and I know just how u feel. I am married with two beautiful kids. We live in Ga. and deal with this everywere we try to go. We have been together for 7 years and he doesnt let it bother him but it does get to me. I just try to ignore it but most of the time i just do what i have to do and keep going.

call the Naacp, and ask. You dont have to be a minority to get help from them. Because that's your work place, not their home.

It sucks that there's freedom of speech but not the freedom to not feel verbally harassed.

People get away with that kind of stuff because people allow them to. Either they make excuse for the behavior or they shrug it off. Let them know that it is not tolerated. People like that raise children with those beliefs and children are less likely to say it "behind someone's back". So the more we speak up, the more were working to prevent other children from being subjected to that kind of behavior.

People can say whatever they want to say. However, if you feel harassed or uncomfortable, you should speak with someone in Personnel/Human Resources and file a complaint.

It's terribly unfortunate that people still feel the need to talk about other human beings that way. Here in Oklahoma, a lot of people are anti-hispanic/latino and say some terrible (and misguided) things. I take offense because of my husband and child are latino.

I wish you luck.
