I sing anything- from nursery rhymes, to random songs, hymnns, even a list of stuff I probably should do! My son loves to hear me sing- and when I can't remember a song I make stuff up. My son absolutely adores our version of itsy bitsy spider (nothing like what its supposed to be).
The point is -just sing.

I sing stay awake which was in the Mary poppins movie when she sings the children to sleep. I sing it to my now 3 year old since she was born.i now also have a 3 month old baby and every time I sing that song he calms down and listens ( I guess he heard it so many times in the womb it's soothing to him)

I sing "Lullaby for Teddy" which really soothes him. The CD is A Childs Gift of Lullabies. It is quite unique and not your typical lullaby song. By r=the end of the song my son is usually asleep. There is a sample track at www.Lullabies.com

You can sing anything to him or make something up.
Anything Woody Guthrie, Carole King, Peter, Paul and Mary, is good, but if you wish to sing the sports section, or Blood, sweat, and tears is fine, if that's what you like.
Carole King sings a song about an honest lulaby, I don't thimk it's entirely appropriate for an infant, but to each their own.

If you google Mother Goose nursery rthyms it gives you a huge list of songs that you can sing!!!! Rock a bye baby, Here is the sea, Ba Ba Black sheep, Mary had a little lamb are just some off the top of my head. You can also look in book stores for books that come with cd's of the songs as well as the book you can read at bed time!!! Check you local library too cause they could have programs for young babies and story time for tots as well. Music is a great thing for kids and is enjoyable when you see them get excited over certain songs!!!
