I had the same problem as many of you are having now. My son would pee no problem in the potty but would not poop. He would stand in front of me and poop in his pull up. It frustrated me to no end. It was all the sudden one day he just decided he wanted to poop in the potty. So I then started in with a reward everytime he pooped in the potty. It's been two weeks since I changed a stinky diaper. I went back to buying pull ups( I stopped buying pull ups and went back to regular diapers because I frgured he wasn't ready.) and now I am working on getting him to pee on his own instead of having to be reminded. My son is also four and I also thought there was something wrong because I listen to a book, but I let my son be a toddler still wearing a diaper and it all fell in to place

i have always used a reward method. i started with m&ms and progressed to tootsie rolls if they pooped

Our son is almost 3 and potty-trained, but the pooping did take longer...I don't know why. Eventually, he learned. I have read that some children prefer the potty chair and some the insert. We had both, but he used the potty chair first. Then, we did get him a Thomas the Train insert...It'll happen eventually...

I have had 6 boys and none of them trained before 3 yrs and most of them waited until they were almost 5. Give it time. Have you ever seen an 8 yr old in a diaper? they do grow up, just keep trying and be patient!

My little boy would only use the potty for a pee. I had bought the toilet ring but never thought to try it then one day he'd been at Grandad's house and had asked to go on the big boy toilet. I was surprised but very happy.

I had the same issue. Darn boys! Anyway... what i did was hit the dollar store and got some "prizes". I got stickers, little cars, smarties, etc. Then, every time he did it on the toilet, I made a really big deal about it, ie. called daddy at work to tell him... he got a sticker to put on the poster that I hung up beside the toilet for his "rewards for going to the toilet", and i would give him a "prize" from the dollar store. BUT first things first.... take him out of the pullups! Put some underwear on him. Sure it is MUCH messier but it is also much more uncomfortable for him! He won't be doing it too many times in his underwear. When you buy the prizes, put it up high where he can see the prize but don't give it to him until he does it on the toilet or potty. Keep reminding him that they are up there and that they are for him... the big boy that uses the toilet.... Just don't get mad if he poops in his pants. that will only set you back.

Our son Evan in 3 and just now fully potty trained. It seems like there is no end, but have faith! It will happen! LOL Basically we tried every potty chair on the market and we finally found one that works. The frog potty from fisher price is what works for us. He loves it, and finally got so comfy with it that it just clicked.

I'm in the same boat except my son is older (he's almost 5yrs). I've tried everything I can think of, bribing, pleading, setting a timer, and yes, once in awhile, yelling. Nothing works. I just don't know what to do about it. I keep hoping that he will just go one day on his own. He pees in the potty all the time, no problems there. He will go poo on the potty, but only if I catch him starting in his underwear and only sometimes. I'm so frustrated! Has anyone got any suggestions??

Also get a couple of potty books. There is a good one I got at Wal Mart that is made specifically for boys and has a toilet flushing sound.

My first born now 4 year old son was almost impossible to potty train! I started trying to potty train him when he was 2 and a half. At first he liked it and did pretty good but he would only pee. I got him to use the big toilet to pee by standing on a stool but then he quit so I got him a little potty chair. He went back and forth between using the toilet and peeing in his pants for almost 2 years and he still would only poo in a diaper. Then when he turned 4 he all of a sudden would use the potty chair for both. I took away the little potty and made him use the big toilet and don't have a problem anymore. I have read that when their brain is developed for that, it will just happen. I had no idea how true that was. Pushing the potty training just made it worse. You have to encourage it but be patient and let it happen when it's time. Don't ever punish them or get upset with them when they have an accident because it is not their fault their brain isn't developed yet, and it will just discourage them more.

Well whatever you do don't push him it will happen in his own time. When I was pregnet with my 3rd child I wanted my 2nd child out of diapers and using the potty before his brother came. He got constipated from holding it because he was afraid to poop in the potty. I felt like the worlds worst mother and will never make that mistake again. Then about a week after Peter was born Henry just yelled one day I need to poop on the potty and has been going ever since. Hope this helps!

I am having the same problem with my son. He keeps saying he is scared and will only go in his underwear - very frustrating - and I am hoping something will click one day and he will just decide to go on the potty. I am also looking forward to the responses you get and will also be checking in.
