I know there is a lot of controversy out there regarding oats and celiac. Wondering what everyone thinks about it. My son really wants granola, but haven't allowed him to eat it yet. When I do, I will definitely make it myself. What do you think?

My little girl isnt Celiac but has a severe intolerance to Gluten as do I, we both eat Oates without issue, I use it in baking as well as she cannot tolerate rice or corn..

My daughters and I can all have gluten free uncontaminated oats. My daughters were diagnosed two years ago and we tried them in a granola and they had no reaction. As for myself, I have been celiac for 25 years and when I was diagnosed they said that oats were no okay, I have tried them recently with no reaction, however I must say since I had never had them I did not really like the texture.

I give my daughter pure uncontaminated oats from the health food store. She seems ot tolerate them well

my son eats certified gluten free oats. I find that if I regulate how often he has them ( never more than once every week or two) he does fine. I started off with very limited amounts, like a tablespoon, then 2 tablespoons the next time etc.

For a greater part of the first year after diagnosis I stayed away from oats but now my kids eat certified gluten-free oats without a problem.

We never use regular oats. Try using buckwheat flakes in place of oats in granola and cookies. We use certified gluten free oats sometimes.

My daughter was diagnosed at age 2; she is now 17. She eats oats and has not had any problems. I am aware of the controversy, but oats work for my daughter.

I am up in the air about oats. My son seemed grumpy (really) when i fed him oats, so i stopped feeding him oats. I havent tried them again though. I am still going to try oats again, but we are going to wait until we feel more comfortable about him having celiacs.
