Hello,

I'm almost certain that my 8 month old daughter has gluten intolerance, possibly Celiac disease. I'm wondering if any of you would like to share your experience and symptoms in your infants.

Layan immediately gets very loose stools and a bad diaper rash (even bleeds sometimes) if she has anything with wheat or barley. She also becomes fussy, and has so many poopy diapers for the rest of the day. I haven't tried any other glutenous grains with her. She does well eating rice cereal and even Earth's Best baby oatmeal. The only other food I know she's allergic to is sesame seeds. I have an appointment for the pediatrician on Sunday, and I will ask if there is a specialist we can be referred to. I'm not sure what's available here because I am in Saudi Arabia, so we'll see. :)

My daughter did not want to be active, vomited almost immediately if I gave her milk, had loose stools, her sleep increased steadily until she would sleep 16 hours at a time and I would wake her to try to get her to eat something, became very weak and fell to below zero percent on the growth charts. Also at times her stools looked as if her food passed right through her without breaking down at all. Please be very forward about getting your daughter to see a specialist. I had to go WAY out of my comfort zone to get my daughter seen by a specialist and by the time that one saw her she was too weak to undergo the sedation needed to do an intestinal biopsy. That was 15 years ago. I hope that now a blood test can be done to confirm the diagnosis. Good luck to you both!
