My son was diagnosed with allergies as an infant, but was never officially tested for them as he didn't have them severely. He was diagnosed with asthma at age 5. He has been doing 44mg of Flovent daily since. He is now 8 yrs old and has had more allergy problems this year than ever. I took him to his pediatrician and he recommended Claratin. We did that for 2-3 wks and saw no results. So back to the Dr we went and he gave us Singulair and Flonase. These do not seem to help either. He is always clearing his throat like he has sinus drainage. He is coughing daily now too. The Dr recommended he be seen by a pulmonologist. There he has blood drawn for allergy testing and given a lung function test, which came back normal. We were told to up his Flovent to more than double his normal dosage and to double his Flonsae. We got the results back from his allergy testing and it was all negative! I do not understand how he can not have allergies. He is always itching his eyes and nose and clearing his throat. The pulmonologist even commented about how horrible his nose/sinuses looked during his exam! I called the other day and explained to the pulmonologist that the new meds weren't helping at all, so she was going to speak with the Dr and call me back. She did promptly and said the Dr wanted him to take Prednisone for 5 days to rule out a lung irritant. Well it's been 4 days and we have seen no change at all. I am at a loss as to what to do. He is miserable and the Dr. doesn't seem to know what to do. His asthma is not bothering him at all. I am wondering if he has a problem with his sinuses. I could just use a little advice because no matter how much I search I can't really find any relevant info as to why a child has allergy symptoms but no allergies! Any advice would be welcome :)
