Hi, mamas... I have a four-year-old son who has mild asthma and a bit of a temper... these two things do not go very well together. Most of the time he's fine, but when I am disciplining him and he throws himself into a hissy fit, what am I supposed to do? My mother in law's reaction is to coddle him and stick him on the nebulizer because she doesn't want to aggravate his asthma. Mine is to follow through with the discipline, which usually consists of him laying in bed until he calms his stubborn behind down, then check his breathing and see if he needs a treatment. I am a big fan of discipline, and I personally don't see the issue in it. His asthma is not that bad, and most of the time once he gets a grip and has a few minutes to collect himself, he is not tugging or coughing at all. I do not want his asthma to become a crutch or an excuse to behave badly, but my mother in law all but claims I am abusing him for allowing him to carry on... he is not a baby anymore and he needs to be held accountable for his actions.
Thanks a bunch, hope someone can help me out with this!
