Are there any moms out there diagnosed with PTSD?

I witnessed my fiance die almost a year ago when I was 5 months pregnant with our son. I am trying to move on but all the change is triggering a lot of emotions and I might be diagnosed with PTSD because my fiances body was mutilated when I last saw him and it traumatized me. I have frequent nightmares and mood swings when something triggers thoughts or around the 10th of the month (the day he died). Can anyone else out there relate to this?

To start with, anything and everything you feel that makes you think you're crazy, is a normal reaction to what you've experienced. PTSD can affect you in strange ways. I was diagnosed after being assaulted when I was just 11. For years I would hear people saying horrible or cruel things and think it was what they had really said before recognizing that I misheard. I still have extremely realistic dreams that are violently graphic and often wake up yelling. Of course that has been really hard on my kids at times too who have had to witness it.
It's a terrible thing to deal with and I'm so sorry that you are going through it. Be as gentle with yourself as you can. Make sure you accept any offers of help and support, or if you don't have enough support go through the phonebook or call lifeline and put some supports in place.
I know it's really hard to accept your child won't know their father too. My son's father died in Nov. '08. We are all still coming to terms with it. I have made up picture boards with photos of my son and his dad and put them on his wall. We talk about his dad alot. Although don't make him out to be a hero. Just a normal but good man, like you know he will grow up to be like one day. I also encourage my son to talk to his dad and he believes that his dad watches over him.
