So, I don't know how many of you have read my original story "Son Went Undiagnosed for too Long", but I thought I'd give ya'll an update.
We have had no troubles to speak of getting him speech services since he was 3 (pretty obvious that you can't understand him and he needs help). However, getting help for his eating has been very difficult. No one knows of anyone that can help so I've been doing some digging. Recently his gastroenterologist, who he's been seeing since he started having problems with bowel movements, asked about his diet, since getting enough fiber is a major factor. I told him the dilema we have been facing for years. We are now scheduled to take our son in for an upper endoscopy to see if there may be any inflammation that is causing him to have a fear of eating foods. He's also going to get in touch with the state nutritionist to see if they could train someone in the school system to come and work with him once a week to get him eating. Here's hoping and praying that we can start finding some solutions. It is very trying to have a 6-yr-old boy who lives off of baby sweat potatoes and bananas, and Ritz crackers.
