How did you know to get your child tested for EE?

My son was prescribed Protonix and of course told to watch what he eats, eliminating the food allergens. Sometimes, inhalers or steroids are prescribed as well. My son has also had two bleeding ulcers in his duodenum! I think it's related since heartburn and reflux is usually associated with EOS and the acid can cause ulcers. ughhh!

An endoscopy. They do a biopsy which and test the eosinophil count to determine if your child has it or not. A high eosinophil count means he does. Food allergies are almost always associated with it as well as heartburn and reflux and of course difficulty swallowing food.

My son is on elecare. Kristin, is yours sons Dr a specialist in EoE because skin testing is not enough, in fact most of the time patch testing isn't even enough. My sons Dr has went to many APFED conferences and studied an extra 4 years about EGIDs. My son eats some fruits, vegtables, and rice pastas that's about it along with the elecare Jr to supplement for protein. He goes back today to look at more allergens through the patch testing...his diet is extremely limited but were trying all we can to get on a good diet and get off his steroids that he has already been on for 4 months.

I just wanted to chime in. My daughter is not going to be tested for EOE at this time. It seems to be acid reflux and food allergies. My daughter was 17lbs and declining at 15 months. But she got on Neocate and it really helped. Now that we have her food allergies are under control and she is eating and gaining weight she no longer needs it. I did like her being on neocate because i knew she was getting all her nutrients. My personal opinion is that some drs wait too long to get patients on neocate. I found it the cheapest by buying it through amazon or even craigslist. Hopefully this is a little encouraging.

Brayden is not on elecare or neocate. Is your son? I asked my son allergist if she thought we should do patch testing and she said skin testing was enough. She also did blood work which showed up differently from the skin test! Imagine that! So what all will your son eat?

Oh I know everything contains soy and wheat no one really seems to understand that :/ my son stays hungry because I guess the foods he eats never fill him up. Ask your sons allergist about the patch tests they say that with EoE and EG skin tests alone probably won't show everything. I am located in Charlotte, NC...Braylon's allergies never showed up until the 3rd skin test he had, It was basically trial and error before Tuesday I knew his biggest allergy was soy. Braylon only weighs 17lb and he is 15 months, its almost impossible to keep weight on him. Is your son on the elecare or neocate?

I live in Missouri. We just had a skin test that Showed he's allergic to peanuts, wheat and soy:( its very hard finding foods!! He never wants to eat. He's only 28 pounds and hes almost 3. Now he is on Prilosec until we go back for an endoscopy. If the numbers are worse she will put him on a steroid. It is so hard:( where are you located?

Poor guy, he had some in his esophagus too but his are all throughout his digestive tract. We are trying to get it under control, his GI just put him on the pulmicort slurry but his allergist wants to get him off of them from doing an elimination diet. He has so much diarrhea its awful and the tummy pain. Skin tests only showed positive reactions to soy, chicken, eggs, oats, eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts. But they did these patch tests that he had put on yesterday and I have to take him back Thursday for the results. They said its genetic and runs in boys more than girls. Where are you located? What all have they done for your son?

Our GI has diagnosed him with EE. He has eosinophils in his esophagus. How is your son doing since the diagnosis? What treatments are you doing? Do they know how it happened?

The only way to get a diagnosis for EoE is an endoscopy and biopsy of different parts of the digestive tract. My son was diagnosed with eosinophilic gastroenteritis May 2

Another milk alternative is hemp milk. It has fat in it unlike rice milk. Our GI dr works with a nutritionist and it was helpful to talk with her.

Hello. I am new to all of this. We just found out my almost 3 year old son is allergic to peanuts, milk, wheat, eggs and sesame. We switched to soy milk and he vomits when he drinks it. We are thinking he is intolerant to soy. We are going to try rice milk or goat's milk. He also had an Upper GI done and they found that he had eosinophils in his esophagus. They haven't fully diagnosed him but we go to see the GI in a week and are pretty confident that she will diagnose it. I am scared about EE. He already is a picky eater and it's very hard to find him to eat something. He only likes fruit, bacon and jello! ANY help would be greatly appreciated because I am at a loss:( I have been researching EE and it sounds scary. I don't know if he will outgrow it or if it is just a wait and see thing.
