Found out today my daighter needs a helmet

I wish we were getting the helmet now, however, we have to wait until insurance approves it then the molding and fitting. So they are saying it will take almost 2 months before she even gets it. We will be at that 7 month mark. Good thing about that, we will be into fall so we won't have to deal with the heat.

I think they are setting us up with a band from the local company out here.

Good luck to you and your son Jenner!! Keep me posted on how he is doing. knocking on wood for you and for me both. :) My daughter has been sleeping through the night since she was 6 weeks. We have been so fortunate with her. She is truly a very happy baby.

If your daughter is only 5 months old, she will not need to wear it that long unless it is super severe or you don't get in with someone who knows what they are doing. I've corresponded with lots of moms and the ones who have gotten their babies treated this young have typically not worn it longer than 3 months. I even know one baby who only had to wear it six weeks. If you wait until 7 or 8 months, then it will probably be more like 4 to 6 months.

I would give anything to go back in time and get my daughter banded at that age. We got treatment at almost 15 months and she did wear it for 6 months without full correction.

And, yes, the wear is for 23 hours a day, but you'll soon get used to it. My daughter looked beautiful in her helmet and she got lots of compliments from others and a lot more attention than she gets without it. Since it is still summer, you may be dealing with sweating and possiblity heat rash, but it will all be worth it. Although my daughter didn't get full correction, she looks so much better than she did before her treatment.

Most babies adjust really well to the helmet/band, but a few have difficulty the first couple of weeks.

Will you be getting a STARband, DOC band, Hanger band or a band from a local company?

hey, i feel for u i have a 7mth old son and just found out he needs a helmet and he too will have to wear it iill 12mths at least, but riet now we are going tho the fitting and casting stages but i am soo anxious about how the adjustment will go, he is a happy baby and a great sleeper, has been sleeping tho the nite since 4wks, so touch wood, hoping it doesn't disrupt him too much. goodluck with ur daugheter.
