I was just wondering if any others in here had the antibodies test done and what were the results and how long before you knew the results.

They believe my son is in the early stages of diabetes.

My youngest son was diagnosed type 1 diabetic almost two years ago. He has always tested negative for antibodies. He is on minimal insulin injections twice a day. As long as he takes the insulin he is very stable, but if he is late his bg level increases rapidly. Doctors still can not give me an explanation. Good luck and best wishes to you and you family. I know how hard it can be on everyone.

Elizabeth,
Thanks for posting. We got his reults back and teh doctor said they were all normal again (including A1c, but I would like to know if it has changed at all). So we seem to be back at square one. His doctor told us she has noted in his chart that she really does believe he is in the very early stages of diabetes. We have a follow up this month in regards to it. I don't know where they will go from here. It's irritating. This last month though has been a good month. The highest we got was 175!!! So this last month was truly a good one! When I found out his antibodies test was negative though i cried. Of course I do not want him to have this by any means, but no one has any other explanation and it scares me if we continue to let his body carry on this way, you know? SO for now I have no idea where we stand. I just keep an eye on him and limit sugar and carbs. I will ask though his endo about the monogenic diabetes you mentioned above, anything is possible at this point, right?

personally Im going to say that your son more than likely has diabetes... and if his numbers stay up its likely that your Dr will put him on insulin therapy... as for the antibody test... they aren't always correct... my son has been diagnosed with type 1 for 3 yrs now (he is 4) and we get the antibody test done every year... and every year its negative... so we are looking into other forms of diabetes ( monogenic diabetes also called permenant neonatal diabetes) as the reason that his antibodies are still negative...

Sorry but I really don't know that anything that would cause this kind of effect with the blood sugars other than the obvious!

Well my son is having high BS. Recently he had an episode of 244. It's been going on for 3 months and our Endo is concerned. But I worry if it takes three months, what will they do with him in the meantime? Since that 244 fasting his BS has dropped each day but the lowest fasting BS has been 146. I just worry about what the heck they will do with him. Also, is there anything else that could cause high BS like this?

My other son was tested because he was presenting symtoms. Thankfully everything was negative. The results took about 3 months. In order to get a quicker idea we also did the regular blood testing to see his average BS during the last 3 months, which were also normal.
