Hi! My son was 4 1/2 when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Things are going well, but it really was a lifestyle change.

Hi. I am Kim and my daughter Avery was just diagnosed on 9/11/08. She is 3 years old and currently taking up to 5 shots a day. We are going away this week to Disnyworld and when we come back are hoping to get her on the ping pump. My husband is also a Type 1 and although it was helpful that I knew some of the terminology it is SO DIFFERENT when it is your child. Avery was in the honeymoon stage for a few weeks but we think it is over now. I would love to chat with anyone who has an idea about what I am going through. My friends are all sick of hearing about Diabetes already (they won't say it but I can tell!) and it consumes every part of our life so it is hard not to talk about it a lot. UGH.....

Lifestyle changes for sure! My husband is also a type 1 Diabetic, but nothing prepares you for your child to be diagnosed. Is your son on a insulin pump? My daughter was diagnosed at 7. I actually discovered it before she had any major symptoms and was insulin free for the first 3 months (that darn honeymoon) and is now doing great on the Minimed insulin pump.
