Ii am looking into pumps now for my 5 yr. old daughter type one 3 yrs now. I like the fact that it is tubeless and there is talk of a smaller one coming out soon. We have tried 2 demos. the first one we had on for 3 days. It left a terrible red, raw irritation that took a week to heal. The second one we left on for a day about a month later. same thing not as bad. has any one had this problem? If so can it be prevented. I'd hate to get this and then not be able to use it or have her with scars everywhere.

My son was using the Omnipod for over 8 months before he started having skin irritation. It became so severe, no matter what skin prep or barriors we tried, that he decided to stop using the pod for awhile. I am hearing that this is common, with all types of pumps, not just the Omnipod. I have spoken with a specialist at insulet and have been given other options to create a barrior between the skin and the pod and will be giving it a try after the summer. My only suggestion is to try out ALL of the infusion sets for any pump you are looking into. You can also try the skin prep with them and see if that makes a difference. You really want her to have a good experience and not be miserable. My son is willing to try again, but not he's not as happy as when he first started on it. Best of luck and if you would like, I can pull out everything we have used so far to try and help...skin prep, tegaderm, etc...and give you a list with the hope that they will help you!!

I would guess it's a contact dermatitis flare because of the adhesives. You could try a skin prep, and an adhesive remover to see if they help, but if it's contact dermatitis, they won't make a difference.
