Rice cereal for acid reflux

My daughter is 5 months and 3 days old and has acid reflux. We have been trying rice cereal for her acid reflux everyday once a day for 4 weeks now acting on her doctor's orders. She seems to like it and even want it, opening her mouth for it, but she can not control her tongue still and keeps pushing every bit out. My first child took right to eating cereal and swallowing solids without any trouble, within a day or two, but my poor baby can't seem to get the hang of it. Does anyone know if this is because of the reflux or is it any other thing going on that I need to be worried about or have checked out?

My baby has acid reflux bad, he chokes and gas and sometimes stops breathing. We have to lift his crib at a 45 degree angle and we feed him rice cereal for his acid reflux with every feeding. That is what the dr told us to do. He is also on Reglan and Prevacid and he still has attacks. now as many but dr said he may need surgery.

We feed formula with rice startch added- Simlac Sensitive RS. It has worked great for us! Also, to feed her rice you can try a 'food nurser' which is a bottle designed to feed them thick purees and rice. Sassy makes some, we have a couple and they work great for young babies, and later for mess-free feeding on the go :)

I don't believe that the acid reflux is causing the problem she is having. It's normal for babys of that age to have problems controlling their tongue when you feed them, causing them to lose some/most of what you put in. Some babys catch on fast while others take a little while to learn. I don't think you have any need to worry right now. Just keep trying..eventually your baby will get the hang of it. If the problem persists and you still feel like something is wrong then you should contact your physician.
