Oh my on Thursday I went with my daughter (a senior in high school) to check out a college. Then all of the sudden it hit me....she will be leaving. I didn't get this way with the first day of kindergarten, the first day of junior high or even the first day of high school. Is this typical? She hasn't even left yet and I already feel lost.

Oh this is nothing wait until the day she gets married and moves away hang on mom that is one rollercoaster of a ride..... just love her unconditionally and she will always love you back and she will call often.... she wants to admit it or not she is going to miss you just as much if not more she is only a phone call away or you could always get the web cam its a wonderful thing !!!!!

Totally typical. Also, be prepared if your daughter starts pulling away over the summer. Somehow it seems to be usual for kids on their way to college to act beastly the closer the time gets. Maybe it's nature's way of making us more willing to let go.

Absolutely! You gotta keep this to yourself tho, at least not burden your daughter with it. It is all about her, and you have to be at peace with yourself that you have prepared her well (given her roots so she can have wings....). This is what we have striven for all these years, getting them ready, and suddenly its here! Make the most of your time with her, and she will treasure it as much as you! Just don't make her feel
1. guilty for leaving
2. so glad to be out of the "overbearing" or "smothering" house
by reacting too emotional. Its REALLY REALLY hard tho! : )
You're not alone, most definitely! Prepare yourself, and be there for her, because this summer will be crazy with her spending so much time away from home with her friends. You want (and need) the time too, but again, its about her and feeling good about herself when she does leave on this grand new adventure! What an adventure for you too! GO to the orientation! They have great lecture series for parents addressing this very topic full of great advise and ideas. Good luck to you!
