There are several things I have done in my life and depending on your strengths and likes some will work for you and some won't. Here is my list:
1. Home Childcare (your state may require you to follow some rules before starting) This worked as long as you don't let the parents walk over you. What I mean is some may say they can't pay or had to stay later than expected. You have to make an agreement and follow it. If you don't, you'll be broke with extra kids in your home!
2. Cleaning Houses. I was so afraid and clueless on how to clean homes as a business. I used to charge minimum wage and did it off and on. About 3 years ago I got serious about it and was blessed to have my customers train me. I'm now a fast and confident cleaner who makes my customers really happy. I charge between $20-35 per hour, depending on the job. (Depending in the area you live you may be able to charge more). This is a job away from home but I work my own hours usually 4 to 5 hours at most. By doing this, you can meet lots of new people and then maybe sell to them some Avon, Home Decor, or whatever you think they'll like. (Double income).
3. Medical Transcriptionist. I went through and completed the training but because of my baby I wasn't able to do the job. (Most are online now). I wouldn't be able to keep him quiet for more than an hour and time is unpredictable with babies. So, this wasn't profitable to me.
4. Scentsy. I made some money with it but only stuck with it for a year. Plus, I didn't put more than 2 hours a week into it. I feel if I had followed through with the training and was careful not to spend too much money but used it wisely for marketing I probably would be making decent money by now. I got out of it because I lived out in the country and delivering orders was draining my profits. Instead I just recently joined Celebrating Home.
5. Blogging: I just started this at www.awomanlikeruth.com and am slowly building it up since I homeschool, have a baby, and clean houses part-time (I'm killing myself! j/k). The kind lady who I paid to train me has given me valuable information that takes time to put together. She is making quite a bit on her blog and offers training. You can visit her website at http://proverbs14verse1.blogspot.com/. On her blog she shares about how much she makes...it's impressive. As for myself, I haven't made money yet only because I haven't put into practice what she's given me. I'm trying! :)
6. Face Painting: If you're artisitic then you can do this as well! I have no professional training. I was encouraged by my wonderful mama to try this. So I went on YouTube, typed in face painting, and from there got so many helpful tips on how to paint certain designs, what products are great to paint with (thank you lisajoyyoung), and how to set up a booth. From there I ordered my paints, looked up my community events (chamber of commerce) and paid a booth rental fee, painted faces without letting people know I was scared to death, and made over $200 in less than 10 hours total. All of this in less than a month. (God gives me help and my daddy gave me a push every time I wanted to hide in my "fear shell".)
Please be bold. I'm always trying new ways to make money that works around my family's schedule. I've lost money and gained money. That's what life's about and don't think you're dumb if you end up losing money. (Get good counsel before putting a lot of money into something especially if it jeopardizes your family's income, peace, etc.) There will always be the people who think you might be crazy, or will talk negative, but smile, remember not to share your ideas with them again, still love them, and go on.
I hope this helps and if you want to be encouraged about loving God, your family, your home, and have fun, come by my website! I would love to share many more things to help
you. www.awomanlikeruth.com (Sorry if there are any misspellings. I usually look up any words I'm not sure about but with my baby sleeping right next to me I have to hurry and type my ideas. When he wakes up I have to get off the computer and put him right back to sleep. It's night time at the moment) ----Naomi Martin

To know that something could change your life, in and out and have the financial stability to make a payment on a car and a house without getting out of bed and setting your alarm clock in the morning. Being home with my kids is number one for me. Believe me it is not always fun, but I would rather be reading a book with my children then to be living someonelse's dream.
Or teaching my children things that the babysitter has taught them.
I was invited to a 90 day challenge party and tried some differnt shakes. I was sold on it right away and signed up as a promoter.
This is Body by vi.
A nutritional shake that tastes like cake mix and helps you lose weight!!! Believe me 40 pounds later , a very happy mama.

Another thing my dad was able to go off his diabetic medication :) and you can take this while your brest feeding!

working from home still requires work...you still are running a home based business. If you think money is going to fall in your lap for being at home with your child, good luck. Anyone that has success with a home based business still requires organization and and WORK, unfortunately there is no money tree for stay at home moms...it still requires work. Sorry just a little frustrated with Lois' post below.

If you're looking for actual, factual income that is reported LEGALLY, there are quite a few work-from-home companies out there. I'm going to leave a list of links in this post, for all the ones I remember, anything else I find or remember later, I'll leave in a subsequent post. I have actually worked for a few, and let me just say, the freedom to come to work in my PJ's and eat or drink whatever I have without the long commute of working outside the house is just an amazing thing. Alpine Access is an excellent company to work for. Teletech At Home is another good one. American Express and Apple also have at home agents, and New Corp, West At Home, Vertex, and a few others are also good places to work, from what I understand. The links are listed below, take a moment to fill out an application or candidate profile for as many as you like, they are constantly and forever hiring. Let me know if any of these help, and glad I could help, even if only a little. Have a wonderful day!!

Teletech At Home - http://www.teletech.com
Alpine Access - http://www.alpineaccess.com (click "Careers" in top right corner of home page)
American Express - http://careers.americanexpress.com
West At Home - http://http://www.westathome.com/
Convergys - http://www.convergys.com
New - https://www.newcorp.com/index.php/careers/home_based_ccr/
Apple - http://jobs.apple.com/index.ajs?BID=1&me...
Vertex - http://www.vertexviahome.com/

Those are all the ones that I can think of, at the moment. Anything else that I find, I'll post later. Let me know if this helps any of you! Have a good day, and good luck!

like other responses, the best way I know of to make money from home is to "own" your own business or get involved with an MLM. But to make it work you have to work it. It can be done from home but you have to be an active participant. If you would like more information you can contact me at my email address, jensen_deann@yahoo.com

I would like to share my at home business with all of you. I am an independant consultant for Pampered Chef. I chose this company because I had concerns about the inital investment (which is about $100 bucks) and my sales abilities. That was 4 months ago- and I made all my investment back the first month and then some. It is great and the added benefit- I've got amazing dishes to cook with.

I've always had the cheap dishes to cook with- somehow there was never enough money left over for me to splurge on a nice skillet, or a new spatula that doesn't melt on the side of my skillet.

So, now I have nice dishes, and a great reason to keep in better contact with my friends. My group with Pampered Chef has also given me some really great new friends.

I hope you find an at home job that is satisfying to you, and if you're interested in joining Pampered Chef, just let me know and I'd be more than glad to give you more information.

I have a website that will allow you to check out our amazing promotions right now for new consultants. Check it out at www.pamperedchef.biz/mara.heckman

Good Luck,

I work with a clothing company, Etcetera, and most of us are stay at home moms. I would love to have you learn more about the company and I promise that I will be completely upfront about the position! When I was looking it was so obnoxious to get the mystery "you can make thousands from home" offers with no info.

BTW It is not Multi Level Marketing--our process is an interview process and our consultants do not recruit other people.

I have put together a website to answer questions and if it seems interesting you can contact me! :)

Best of luck to you!

Like most of the comments I have read, most at home jobs are a Multi-Level Marketing company. Such as Mary Kay and Tupperware. I also, am involved with a company called Mona Vie, it is a health food drink, and people are raving about the effects. I have many friends and nieghbours who are making from a modest to great income with this product.

Though I have to be honest, I have done very little with the business since I was registered, as my 17 year old son was killed around the time of my registration. I did alot of business out of town before his death, and I have not yet felt the urge to add a new thing to my plate. Though as I have said I have seen others success.

MLM is normally mostly more successful when you build a business with a team approach. It is encouraging, motivating and can be alot of fun.

If this is the route you want, I agree that find a product that you can love. Mona -vie, tupperware, stampin up, anything. Then good luck.

Do you like to create things? By "create", I mean do you like hand-made items (that don't look hand-made)? If so, try the direct-sales company I joined in July, '01 by clicking on this link http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/ang... There is a video on the page it takes you to and in the left margin, there are a couple other links so that you can read all about joining. Right now, there are some deals on the Starter Kits available and I can give you any other information that you would like. I would love to have new team members!

Now I have to tell you, you will make what you put into this business. If you don't put anything into it, you're not going to make much (other than your own cards, home decor, gifts, etc.) but if you put the work into YOUR business there is no telling what you will do!

That is the same with all direct-sales companys. You should find a product that you truly believe in and work with that. I LOVE rubber stamping, creating our family cards and gifts, using our products to decorate my house, etc! I'm excited to see the faces of the recepients of theses gifts, knowing that they are TRULY happy to receive the gift they've just opened - it's a WONDERFUL feeling when this happens! When I received a phone call from my brother one Christmas asking why I sent store-bought cards (even though he knew about the crisis my husband's family had recently gone through, thus why only a few people received last-minute cards from us!), I must say that made me feel proud and boosted my ego a tad! That is a feeling that I would love to share! :o)

If you would like to get more information, just shoot me a message.

I'm a Mary Kay consultant and I do make a nice part time income. I've been in it for about 5 years. I am focused on selling and customer service, rather that building a team & earning a car. Not that those things are bad, but I've seen it make people a little crazy ;-) I do have some recruits, but they don't do a lot, & I don't bug them. If you recruited under me, I would advise you to have a debut party before placing your first order, then place your order based on your sales, not on company incentives. (Usually sales are very good, though.) You would need to focus on building a customer base, slowly. Start with friends & family, but don't depend on them for your business. Be cool with them, so they won't start avoiding you. Don't expect it to happen fast, & don't quit!! Actually now is a great time to start - so many consultants are dropping off and there just aren't a lot who are really "running a store", compared to only ordering it for themselves.

Two other benefits - tax write-offs & you get your own stuff for 1/2 price. That brings the price down to drugstore level for department store products. I do love the products & use everything.

Good luck!
Laura

I work from home and make a wonderful income working part time. I have looked at most of the work at home offers and wasn't happy with what I found. Last July I started working with a company that has been around for 25 years. I am on track to earn a company paid vehicle this summer. The best part is that I get to help so many people enhance their lives in so many ways. This is a super opportunity and I love sharing it with everyone I meet. This isn't a get rich scheme or MLM. If you are interested send me a message and I will get in contact with you. It's very easy to take a look at and see if it is something that would work for you or not.

I do...my business partner and I started a company selling sports related products and got our collegiate license ....we make our jewelry up ourselves and sell with a very nice profit. You absolutely must have a partner who understands bookwork ...it takes so much time to get a license...lots of red tape and paperwork...but you can do something like this. Take a market you like (clothes, jewelry etc.), use your strengths and knowledge....maybe start with etsy.com....

Hi everyone!

I do work from home and we have thousands of people comprised of moms, dads, doctors, teachers, attorneys, dentists, senior citizens, accountants, CEO's and more who have chosen to partner with our 25 year old company to earn a supplemental or replacement income. We have a very simple business but it does take motivation and a desire to advance, just as it would in any traditional business or job. The home-business perks allow you to work from home, save money on childcare and job expenses like gas, work clothing, lunches out, etc. Plus, the tax advantages for a home business are Excellent.

Our Team partners with an Inc 500 company and we do not sell, stock or deliver any products. Of course we have products, we wouldn't be legitmate if we didn't. Our company is a green manufacturer, and has received many awards and impressive marks from the Better Business Bureau. In 2008, The Better Business Bureau honored us for our example of ethics and integrity in dealing with customers, employees and the community.

Our Team offers presentations, either by phone or by webcast if you have high speed internet, that will get you all the details you'll need to decide whether our business is for you.

I have been working at home for 19 years (when my first son was born) as a scopist (editing and proofing court reporter transcripts). Love my job, took awhile to get established, but has been the best choice for the lifestyle I wanted to lead. You can learn it through very reputable online schools as I did during the first year of my son's life, but again, it does take time to find reporters and get established. It is not a scam whatsoever, truly takes a lot of hard work to build your business, but is just the best of both worlds, working and being a mom at home. I've been a stay-at-home mom since my 28 year old son was a baby. My younger son is now 21 and a college senior, heading to grad. school next year. I've loved my business because I'm helping other parents be their best.

The key to success in this business is not being organized (I'm not) although it helps. It's not being driven. (I wish I were). The key is to be passionate about your product and services and being willing to share with others what you have to offer. It's easy if you know you are helping other people. Feel free to write to me if you'd like to hear more.

I am a working single mom aiming to 'stay at home'. I have friends who used to work but have joined MLMs like Avon, Amway, Tupperware or Oriflame and have moved up the ranks, making money and getting cash bonuses as well as material bonuses like cars, so they have resigned from their jobs as soon as they got to levels where they receive ample cash rewards.

Just want to warn you, though: MLMs are not for everybody. You need to be organized, focused, diligent, relentless, DRIVEN and goal-oriented. You will need a lot of motivation just to start the business.
