I couldn't believe the name of this group, so I just had to join. I have 5 kids, and all are ADD, some have ODD tendencies, and especially the 4 youngest who are boys are very destructive. The thing is, they are destructive for different reasons. Sometimes they destroy out of boredom, out of curiosity to see what is inside something, out of anger, out of a need to create some excitement, out of the feel of things, ie sensory reasons. Sometimes they realize they are doing something bad, other times they just don't. Sigh! Why do your kids destroy? So far all I have been able to do is learn to not keep anything too nice, have lots of places to lock things up for security reasons and learn to laugh at the insanity. I have had kids eat drywall, flood the basement, soak our piano, bash in walls, pull off the molding around doorways and floors, rip up keyboards, submerge telephones, dismantle remote controls, cut my box springs on my bed, and on and on and on..... just seeing there are some 2000 others on this group tells me I'm not alone.
