My daughter has had a EEG before due to the fact my mom saw her have a seizure, but everything came back normal. I was just sitting and playing with her and she spaced out for a minute and I tired getting her attention, but she would come out of it. Could that be a absence seizure or just her staring off?

Hi Kate,
I would suggest getting an MRI if they continue. How old is your daughter? My son is now four and was diagnosed at 2, and he his seizures are just 5 to 10 seconds of "spacing out" or staring off to space. His EEG showed nothing, but when we got his MRI we found a small lesion on his left parietal lobe which is causing it and they called it "Partial Seizures." I know you must be freaking out as I felt the same way 2 years ago, wondering what the heck just happened and hoping it wont happen again. My pediatrician told me after the first seizure that there are many many reasons for a child to have a seizure, so hope for the best. But my son's continued the first week everyday I saw one until he had 4 one day that week and we got the MRI, then they put him on Trileptal and they stopped. He was seizure free for 13 months and then they returned, we have now started another drug Keppra. Sometimes I feel lucky that the seizures are just moments of being spaced out, and not shaking or grand mals, but it's still very frightening as a mom to watch. Don't hesitate to call your Neurologist if you see any more. On the positive side, I also have talked to a few moms who this has happened to and then they have never seen a seizure happen again.
