I have a 5 year old that is on his 4th med to stop these. He has had this for 2 years. He been talking during his seizures. Last EEG showed they where absence. I'm scared they are changing. Have any of you had a hard time getting these under control? Also, have any of you had the talking thing. He is still having 10-12 a day. They last about 5-12 sec's.

My son was diagnosed with Absence seizures at age 3 years. He was only placed on Zarontin elixer and he has been seizure free since. He is now 6.5 years old and he should be coming off his medication soon. His were frequent before the medication, sometimes 30+ a day. Hope this helps.

Our son was dx at age 4. So hard to tell if they are having them. They always ask me how many and how long do they last. Unless I sit and just watch him it is so hard to see them. Ethosoximide has been our answer to seizures.

My son was diagnosed with absence seizures when he was 10. It took 3 meds and over a year and he's finally on the right track. He took kepra and was allergic. He is now taking Depakote. Although the side affects were horrible (nightmares, dizziness, sleeplessness etc) for the first month he now has no side affects at all. He's is almost 13 now and doing great. Hope you find something that works.

I have a daughter who is now 20 and she has had this type of seizures for over 10 years It took a long time to get them under control. They are now under control, she takes Kepra and limeictal together twice a day. The Dr.s did have her on topomax this causes many learning problems as well as weight loss. So they changed this to lamictal. She has been seizure free for over a year. Just wanted to let you know.she takes 750 mg of Kepra, and 75 mg of lamictal. Both twice a day. Hope this helps.

Cher,

My daughter was dxed in march of 09 with complex partial epilepsy into generalized seizures. I have seen the absence seizures in her. Lately I have been seeing something, but I can't say for sure. I do know that something is going on because she now has chapped lips and she don't get it unless it's really cold or something is going on. I have heard that it's really hard to get the absence ones under control and even harder to get them caught on and EEG. So I hope that you can find out what's going on and get a med for him to help. My daughter is taking keppra. She takes right now 6mls 2x's a day. She also sees her nero on the 13th...So it's something to find out for her...
