Does anyone have any info on Trileptal?

trileptal is a seizure medication but it is also used for explosive out of control behavior my adopted son has been on it for yrs and we have not had any problems with it but u also have to allow it to get in his system takes bout 4 weeks it is not an immediate acting drug so give it time before u give up on it also it supposed to have less side affects than these newer meds

lol..Oh babe, feel ur pain...my son was on Tegritol and Keppra, then moved to Trileptal and Keppra. Keppra made hima mental case and even more agressive...so I'm not a fan (personal opinion) Trileptal is basically Tegretol but a slower releasing formular and lasts longer, Ifound no change at all except that he seemed to go longer without seizures. hope that helps. good luck

My daughter (almost 8 mos) was put on Trileptal at the age of 5 mos. She has been seizure free for over three months now. She is on a low dose (2 ml a day) and she really hasn't had any significant side effects. It may make her a bit sleepy, but nothing else that we have noticed. She is as happy as can be and is always smiling. I hope this helps!

My son was on trileptal and experienced really unhealthy weight gain as a side effect. He gained 40 pounds inside a year at the age of 4 and it wasn't particularily effective for controling his seizures, definitely not one I'd recommend or revisit with my son.

than kyou all for your input. My son is no longer on Keppra and is now taking Trileptal, since he has made major improvementsi nhis behavior, I am so happy to be amking progress. My only concern is how sleepy my son is with Trileptal, he used to be very hyperactive and now he is a couch potato.

My daughter is 3 and she started onTrileptal but after 2 weeks she wouldn't hardly eat, or drink. She was so emotional and it increased her seizures. She is now on Keppra for almost 2 weeks and although her appetite has come back she isstill emotional and she is now very aggressive and she has never been an aggressive child!

My 9 month old has had seizures for the last 5 months and has been on phenobarb, ACTH, klonopin, Keppra and trileptal. She is currently on trileptal (4ml) and keppra (3ml) both 2x a day, I dont think keppra has ever helped but she has had fewer on trileptal, but seems to get tolerant quick and has dose inc a lot, only weird thing since starting it in feb has been weekly episodes of unusual , rapid eye movements and vomiting that leaves her limp and exausted, video eeg says these episodes arent seizures but says it may/may not be from trileptal.. its all frustrating but good luck

my son was switched from Keppra to Trileptal three years ago. He started on the liquid form of Trileptal and after his six month blood test was switched to pill form. The liquid form was being absorbed too quickly by his body, and wasn't helping. Since he has been on the Pill form, he has been fine.

Sabrina, my son Cory started on Trileptal when he was first diagnosed. The emotional roller coaster that you are discribing happened with Cory. He also had rage seizures while taking Keppra. I will pray that the doctors can figure out his meds soon. Chrystal

My son is on Trileptal. It used to work quite well. He used to fall asleep in class though, so I had to reduce the dosage. Now he is still getting mild seizures from time to time. It is also effecting his concentration. (We are unsure if it is the medication or the ADD but his concentration is much worse since he's been on medication, Epilim and Trileptal). He is going for epilepsy surgery in 12 days time so hopefully he won't need the meds anymore. I hope things work out for your son!

Trileptal is used to control partial onset seizures, or seizure activity that starts in one part of the brain. My daughter had just turned 1 year old when we started Trileptal. She went from having 1 seizure a day to having 1-2 a week and then after a couple of weeks her seizure activity picked back up again. She is on Clobazam as well. We are currently working on getting the right doses of both medicines but it looks like we'll have to just move on. I hope Trileptal does more for your son! Good luck!

Do it!

My son is 5-- was on Keppra and became really aggressive and still had seizures. The doctor added Trileptal little by little as she lowered the dose of Keppra (it took about 1 month). He is now on Trileptal and hasn't had any seizures. He really hasn't exhibited any side effects--maybe a bit sleepy sometimes, but nothing like Keppra. I knew it was time to get off Keppra when my cute 4 yr old tried to headbutt me!!!

Switch meds. Good luck!
