Just to make this clear, I am a mother with epilepsy...my child as far as we can tell, does not have it, but I have had it for most of my life and am more than happy to help anyone who needs it...I might not have all of the answers, but as well as dealing with epilepsy with myself, my grandmother (who raised me) also has it, as well as my niece..like I said, lots of experience...so even if you just need a shoulder to cry on ( figuratively obviously) I am here for anyone who needs me.

definately make sure not to panic...that is the worst thing to do...when a seizure occurs, the only thing you can do is let it happen..but make sure that they are in a safe place where they won't hit anything and if you can't help where they are (which happens alot) then, quickly remove any hazards that are around them. talk to them and soothe them during and after the seizure...many seizure patients can hear during seizures, tho they may not realize or understand what you are saying, it helps to hear a calm, soothing voice. turn the lights off after they are done and avoid loud noises as the person likely has a headache (i always have a bad one). if they are having full grand mal then they likely have muscle aches too. a warm bath once they are up to it will help with this. i hope everything goes okay.

tegretol does make you gain weight and then they have to up your dose because it no longer works because my son and his father was taking it. His father still takes it and he is a good 260 lbs.

it's no problem, i know how scary the seizures can be and it's even worse when the people around you get scared too. my hope is to help parents understand more of what their children are going through so that maybe they can make the experience a little bit easier to handle.
