Happy to report...James has been stable on just the Lamictal alone for about a year now. Hopefully this will be it for him until the day he grows out of his epilepsy. (The doctors give him good odds of growing out of it in a few yrs.)

Great news! Lamictal has been very good for my son as well. It is the only medication he has tried and it has worked well. Hoping that James is seizure free for a long time!

My son tried nearly every medication possible we found the best to be a mix of Lamotrigine, Epilim and Keppra although for the first few weeks it made him very tired it was the best he'd been for years. Unfortunately after 8 months this also stopped working.. I was lost as to what to do next and so were his doctors. Finally they decided that the only chance left was Brain surgery. He had the op in may and hasn't had a seizure since. I would reckomend to anyone if the chance for brain surgery is there take it. Its a very scary thing to go through but well worth it in the long run...

We are on the medication roundabout too. Our daughter is 4 and a half and we have tried tegretol, epilem, keppra and she is currently on 3 drugs - colbozam, topimax and lamictal. They don't seem to be working at the moment either! It seems to be the same story for everyone to keep going through the drugs until 1 day we find the right one. Quite disheartening but we must all stay positive for the kids sake. Good luck with finding the right drugs xo

Thanks everyone. All this info. and feedback is so helpful and comforting. James obviously needs more time on his meds and is still not up to the max. dosage. One of the 5 Pediatric Neurologist we have seen once said, "Slow and steady wins the race". Hoping and praying James will continue to make progress...

James warms my heart. What a handsome littel devil!!! Don't give up hope about finding the right medicine. There is alot out there. We started on Trileptal, but didn't work and made my Owen tremor bad. We then started Keppra and that work for almost year, a few breakthroughs, but eventually became more and more. So we are weaning off Keppra and trying Lamictal. I'm hoping fro my son that this is his answer. Perhaps he will have to be on a contail also, only time will tell. Take care and keep us posted!!!

My daughter, Melanie had the same problem with her medications and dosages working. They put her on an older drug that she takes twice a day and it works like a charm. She's on Carbatrol E.R.. She's been on it for over 6 years now. The only time she's had a seizure since being on this medicine is when they tried to wean her off of it too soon. She started having seizures when she was 14 years old. We found out that she has a a problem processing sodium and that is what started this whole thing. She graduated from high school June 2008. She had problems at first and missed alot of time from school the first year . She made up her missing hours from school and completed her sophmore and junior year at the same time. Melanie got to graduate with her friends on schedule. Don't lose hope. I never did and she's a happy, healthy, beautiful 20 year old. She will always be on her medicine but her neurologist said she should be able to live a happy normal life including being able to have kids of her own.

Hang in there! My daughter just got released from the hospital and is on Depakene. It is not working so they are looking at what medication to put her on next.

Keep thinking positive. I know it's hard my daughter just got out of the hospital and was put on Kepra as the last resort. She's 2 and a half and I am hoping that this is the med for her.hope everything goes well for you and your son James.

Now James is now on Lamictal & Dilantin. So far so good?
