Lamictal and dangerous side effects? Many concerns...

My 2yr old started having seizures six months ago. He has now been on Keppra for the past four months. Keppra has helped his seizures but still has not stopped them completely. He has multiple seizures everyday. He has been diagnosed with complex partial seizures. This is still new to us and a bit scarey!!! Besides the arm jerking and starring off he is a very active developing normal in every other way. Any advice for someone like me who is new at this whole thing?

Hi Amy, My daughter was diagnosed with partial complex Epilepsy at the age of 6 yrs. We have been on Trileptal and Zonegran for the past 5 years. We were seizure free for 4 3/4 years. Our daughter is 12 now and started to have them all over again. The doctors added Depakote to her regimin. Trileptal and Zonegran work very well with little side effects.

Thank you for the advice about one day at a time. I spoke to my sons neuro dr and he suggested trileptal if I was not comfortable with Lamictal. We are also going to go get a second opinion about his eeg/video and how they might do treatment. Thanks for sharing about your boys. I wish you the best. One day at a time! :)

Unfortunately, my best advice is to take one day at a time. I have two boys with epilepsy. both started at a year old (they now 9 and 7). It can take time to find a good medication that works. My older son has been on Lamictal for years and he is very well controlled. However, my younger son has been on so many different drugs (Keppra, Lamictal, Klonopin and Topomax currently). He also had a VNS implanted last May and after all of that, he still isn't well-controlled. Although, slightly better recently (we feel due to the VNS). Good luck to you and you son!
