Sad my son started having seziures at 8months old, and was by doctors considered febrial, which i kept telling them it was much more, after a day at daycare he went into a seziure without having a fever, after the age of 4 i was finally told he has epilepsy on the left side of this brain as well as being death in his left ear. I am down right upset that the fact that it took so long for them to tell me and now that he's 4 and he wants to play football and other sports it makes me feel as if i have failed him. Please tell me what can he do that wont send him to the hospital, and he can still enjoy childhood

Denise, first off what kinda seizure is he having? Did they give you a name, because theres several kinds of seizures.Ive had grama seizures since 18 due to an accident and had to have brain surgery. The drs told my parents sometime id have them. At that time i was 14. I hadnt been 18 long then they started. I would have them for the rest of my life.Ive learned so much about spell's thats what i call them. Yrs and yrs ago before drs could diagnose what they were they called them.Never the less as time as gone on and seizures kept coming i had a life. Gave birth to two sons, worked for myself, companys dont like the risk of me havin one and they get sued.My boys had to learn what to do because i got divorced from there dad. Sure i guess at first (little fellows then)it probably scared them to. But today my boys are grown and i trust them with my life. Its wonderful children can learn such an impotant lesson as this. Actually its a blessing. If youd like to talk to me about more write back to me. Cheryl atkinson, your son will be able to have a full life only if he takes his meds everyday.

i was always told the younger you are when you get it the more likely you will grow out of it. and i would not let the disorder get in your son way tell him that he can do what other kids do and dont let anyone use it agianst him, doc told me i should not have kids cause it would kill me but i have to wonderfull girls, and you should not be afriad that something is going to happen to him if he does this or that my mother to this ever day is the same way you are and i am 37  it is not going to hurt him to be boy it will make him happy and i know it will make you happy to see him happy so let him

I feel u!!!!... My child is 10.. its sooooo hard to find something that they can enjoy.... I still havent found anything for her to feel normal being apart of... I even tried Girl Scouts... No one feels comfortable with her attending activities without me or a Nurse being there... I've only heard about special camps for kids with such needs... this is the first time I've been on this website.. I thought it was just a joke or a whole bunch of people that would'nt be able to relate to me... But as soon as I saw ur pic.. I said HAY this might be ok.. I'm looking forward to finding out new things about epilepsy and I think I just might be able too... May God bless you.. And I hope he's able to play some type of sport... What did the doctor's say about him and sports????

My daughter is 13 and she has seizures also. She is also developmentally delayed. Does your son take meds to control the seizures? It would help him enjoy his childhood. If he does, than he should definitely play football and any other sport.

My son is eleven and had his first seizure at 8. He plays soccer, baseball, and basketball, but I don't feel comfortable allowing him to play football either. He's a happy, healthy kid though. Have you checked with his neurologist to see if he has any limitations? Hang in there, there are lots of things your son will be able to do.
