Need Resources for CP, Epileptic hospitalized child needing home health nurse but medicaid wont pay

Hello,



My 12 year old son with Cerebral Palsy and Seizure Disorder is currently in the hospital due to a brain infection caused by his VP Shunt. He has had two brain surgeries and two pic line placements in the last week. I was informed today that he could be released from the hospital and just get antibiotics in his pic line but Medicaid will not pay for a Nurse to come to my home. The crazy thing is Medicaid will pay for him to sit in the hospital for the next three weeks just so the staff can give him his IV antibiotics.



I find it hard to believe that they won't pay for someone to come three times a day to give him meds, but they will pay for 24 hr arround the clock care for three weeks. Please let me know if you have any known resources or suggestions. We are currently in Clayton Co. GA but will be moving next week due to lack of funds for resources in Clayton Co. GA.

Melissa, I got help through the state program called Care Star. There should be help for you to get nurses. I have nurses in my home and the state pays for it. I get approved for 45hrs. a week and I have been approved more when needed. You should probably contact your Job & Family Services and ask them to direct you where you need to get any info, but there is help. Medicaid will not pay for my nurses either. I will contact my case manager and ask about your state and get back with you asap. I know how you are feeling. I've been there and lost a good job over not having the proper care.
