Is anyones child taking this medication? Any side effects? effectiveness? I know that medication can affect each person differently, but just curious if anyone has had good results with this med. The doctor recommended to try this one next since my son is still having seizures on divalproex (depakote dr)
thanks,
Colleen

I know I'm late to this but if others stumble across it. My daughter has always been super active. Since taking this medication she has become more active as well as moodier. I seen a decrease in the amount of seizures she has which is great, but because of these mood swings it's becoming difficult to deal with her. Maybe a dosage change is necessary

My 3.5 yr old has been on this medication for about 2 yrs. He has had two seizures since but they were very minor and short compared to what they were before the meds. The last one he had was more than likely due to a bad ear infection and amoxicillin which his neurologist says might have caused his Trileptal to be less effective. He does have mood swings every now and then but then again, don't a lot of kids this age have them?

My daughter was on depakote and it made her hair fall out and we were still having break through seizures quite a bit but since she was put on trileptal she has gone as long as 4-6 months without a seizure and we haven't had any side effects from it she does very well and has been on it for a long time now.

My son Kevin has been on Trileptal since his very first seizure at age 4. We have been blessed that he has only had three in his lifetime. We switched to the generic brand - oxcarbazepine in January of this year and he had his 3rd one then. It was due to the fact that we switched to the generic and the dosage was not correct. His side effects are that he is very hyper and active. We have a hard time getting to sleep now rather than before on the name brand. Every now and again, he complains of a headache but not like before and it doesn't seem to stop his moving about nor slowing him down. Is anyone else having to go have blood drawn every 3-4 months to make sure that the meds aren't affecting the liver?

My daughter takes it and she is doing great. Her seizures stopped after a little adjusting and the side effects are tolerable. She is sleepy right directly after taking it but when she is awake she is a lot more hyper than usual. Before the med she would sit around and was a mellow kid just sweet as can be. Now she is loud and crazy just everywhere. I don't mind though would rather have her full of life than having seizures. My daughter also use to complain of headaches about three times a week and now she has not complained of one. So I would reccommend it to anyone. She is on 3ml's twice a day. Not sure what the average dose is but that is hers.

My son is on Trileptal and so far it has been a godsend! Since starting it he has started developing! He is saying 15 new words since starting it and is just doing so amazing! It's like I have a new child! (My DS is 2 by the way, but developmentally is at the age of a 15-18 month old)

We just completely switched over from Keppra today. So far it has seemed to be better for my son. Time will tell though. Less mood swings!!!!!!

My son was on Trileptal, it seemed to help for a bit but then his seizures worsened which is a possible side effect. More common side effects of Trileptal are behavioral which from what I can tell is a possible issue with pretty much all antiepileptics.

Yes, my daughter who is now 5 has taken Tripleptal for almost 3 years and the only side effect is a little constipation. One time the pharmacy gave me the genetic and she complained of it burning her throat and gave me a really hard time. I works really well for her, she doesnt fight to take her medication, she takes it twice a day and actually likes the flavor of it. She says it takes like vanilla. You should try it.

i am taking the medication myself. It works good for me in combination with phenobarbitol. It has made me feel loopy while building it up but now at a constant level i am ok.

My daughter is 10 and has been having seizures since she was 8. We went through a few doctors and thought she wouldn't need medication, since they were mainly at night. When she started having them while awake, we put her on oxcarbazepine, and we have had great results. Getting her level right was hard because she was growing so fast, but we have it now we think. She's been on it for over a year, and I haven't seen any side effects. Some would say that she is tired, but at this age, they get tired anyway, with all their activities. I am hopeful that we will be able to go off meds in another year if things stay how they are now. The only issue we have is when she (we) forgets to take it. Then she has some of her night seizures again. Overall, I think for Jaci, this was our best choice.
