My son fell yesterday evening while playing outside and hit his head on the concreat. He's had seizures for about 2 1\2 years or so. I was very afraid he would have one in his sleep and i not know about it (i'm still worried about this). Has anyone had this happen?

When I read up on the emfit, it did not look like insurance covers it. Our daughter does not make much sound anymore when hers start, so last time I did not hear it on the monitor but just happened to check on her and found her seizing, thanks be to God. Agreeing with you that $600 is too much; I'm thinking about video monitor?? Someone else mentioned one that she uses.

I started giving my 3 year old who has epilepsy melatonin at night per his neurologist and it has definitely helped he still has a few seizures a night but he was having like 15 a night, I wonder if insurance covers any of these monitors you guys are talking about cause I cannot afford 600 dollars but really don't want him sleeping with me the rest of his life cause I'm too scared for him to sleep in his own bed in his room on the other side of the house

Hi,

Would the emfit seizure monitor help with absent seizures too though or only tonic clonic? My daughters are always different?? What about an apnoea monitor does anyone know if this would help? My daughter has never had one in her sleep (well not hat I know of) but I'm still petrified!!!

Cathy ... try giving her Melatonin an hour before bedtime. It's with the vitamins/minerals. I give my son 3 mg. and he usually sleeps all night long ... sound to sleep. It lulls the brain and they get into a deeper realm of sleep, hence that the seizures may not happen because of being in a deeper sleep. Try it. It helped my son tremendously.

My daughters seizures have only happened at during sleep, early in the morning. I am always afraid I will not know but she makes a noise and I always wake up. I make surebi am always in ear shot while she sleeps wether it be monitors or sleeping in the same room. It is scary but God is with us! Trust in that!

like everyone has mentioned, you can have seziures in you sleep. If you are worried about suffication while sleeping, you can purchase special pillows with holes in them that allow breathing. just a tip

Cornelia ... I sure hope the Melatonin works as well as it does for my son. A deeper seizure free (or just a few) made a world of difference when it came to his abillity to learn in school. Plus I have been able to sleep again.
Good Luck,

My eldest son (11) has between 3 - 30 seizures a night for the last 2 years now. The sleep deprivation is wrecking havoc on our family but I'm now so used to it that I'm actually grateful his seizures are at night in the safety of his bed rather than during the day (last time he fell off a tractor and ended up having 8 stitches in his face!). Some of his nightly seizures are so brief that he doesn't even wake up but others do cause him to wake up from the fearful sensation that he can't breath. But its true, it seems that most seizures happen when he's going to sleep or nearly waking up i.e. during that non-deep sleep faze. Thanks for the melatonin advise - will definately try that.

I purchased our alarm from the epilepsy centre in south Australia, Australia as this is where I live. I've googled them and they can be purchased in the USA and UK. Google emfit seizure monitor and you should be able to find one near you somewhere. Cost $600 her in Australia but well worth it!

Hi,
My 17 year old daughter has had grand mal and petite mal seizures since she was three. They are totally random. No drug, therapy or surgery has helped. (still trying with keto diet now). She has hit her head several times and it never lends to a seizure ( odd i know) and when she does seize at night we can hear her if its a grand mal. Put him in your room, like a camp out for a few days so you can better hear him. My husband built us a small tepee for her to sleep in in our room so we could listen and watch her, she loved it and had know idea we were spying on her until she was 9!

Angela and others whose kids have night time seizures. My son was having them nightly a couple years ago. 'Dr. Mom' looked into what MIGHT help. Since giving Joey Melatonin (vitamin/mineral on the shelf) has helped him so much!! I give him 3 mg of Melatonin and hour before bedtime. About an hour after taking he says I am going to bed. Love those words. Melatonin just turns the brain function down ... lulls it like a lullaby. Their brains have so much going on that they don't get a deep enough sleep and that allows seizures to happen. Joey gets a deeper sleep and has NOT had night time seizures. Makes me breathe easier. It's worth a try if you can help your child or even an adult with seizures. God Bless!

I don't know if my daughter has had seizures at night or not. But it def freaks me out to think she could and I wouldn't know. I got a cheap nanny cam off ebay and put it in her room. So at least I can watch her while I am up. But I have no way of knowing what is going on when I sleep. I hate it!

Our daughter has seizures in her sleep almost every night. we have an emfit seizure alarm and it alerts us every time she has a seizure. We could not be happier with it as it gives us peace of mind and allows us to sleep. It alarms loudly when she is having a seizure to wake us up. Good luck with your son xo

My daughter has had many seizures at night and we were able to be there for her. If it would help you I would recommend that you put a baby monitor in his room so you could here him if he was to have one.
