My daughter has had GERD/Reflux since birth. She has had PH studies done and takes the highest dose of medication for it. She is 14months old and still refluxes at least 10x a day. Her doctor told us that if she doesn't out grow this by 18months then they will do another PH study to determine if she will need surgery or not. Her level of acids on a PH study test is severe at levels of 2-3. (A 1 is battery acid). Well she is 14 months now so I know 18 months will be here very soon. I am getting scared because her reflux is still horrible and no medication or special diet helps. My biggest concern is the acid is burning up her esophagus. My question is, have any moms out there had a baby who had to go threw with this surgery? If so, did it alter how your child has to eat for any time period or the rest of their life? Was there any problems with the surgery? Did your child recover well? Did it effect the way you child felt towards food or eating time? Please share everything you know about this precedure called nissen plycastion(SP???) or something like that. I'm very scared and am not sure if surgery is the best route(even though nothing else is working). Please help. Thanks in advance to any tips, stories, or advice.
