Free ipod and ipad applications for autism awareness month

For any of you who might have an ipod or ipad, there are several free applications available on itunes right now for Autism awareness month. They will be free through the month of April. My daughter uses the ipod touch for communication with the proloquo2go application. You can find several very good applications for children with special needs on itunes. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will share a link to a website that has several great apps listed. :)

Laurie,

There are different deals this year than last. On Autism awareness day the GRACE app for communication was free (normally $38.00) I don't know if it is still free or on sale. There were some others that were free or 1/2 off. Go to the iTunes store and search Autism and a lot of apps will come up. They will say what the price it right now.

Hi Melissa,
Technology is getting less expensive over time it seems...maybe some day you will. :) I think there might even be some organizations out there to help people who have children with autism (or other disabilities) to get these for use as assistive tech devices.

Also, depending on the needs of your child, the school system may be able to provide something like that through an assistive technology evaluation. That is how we learned about what the ipod could do. The school provided one for use and then we chose to purchase our own, since she was using it to communicate with the proloquo2go app.
