Garbage bag doesn't work for my kids. They will throw their own toys away without complaint.
What works for me is paying a sibling their allowance to pick up their stuff. It works b/c they don't want their sibling messing with their stuff AND they lose their allowance.

Yes, the garbage bag works! My husband was always the one who showed up with the garbage bag in his hand and just the sight of it got them cleaning right away! Now that my girls are older, with teenage social lives, I tell them that before they go anywhere with friends, their room needs to be clean.

Quoting Melissa:
honestly...tell her to clean it and whatever she doesnt clean you will "throw" away. I have done this...now I actually put whatever wasnt cleaned up into a garbage bag and she had to earn items back. I heard this tactic somewhere...I think it was Dr. Phil...it does work!
i've done that with my 18 month old, and my 5 year old and boy do they move fast. LOL I have actually thrown stuff in the garbage in front of them because they didn't clean their room. Now they know that I'm not joking when i tell them to clean their room.

Give her a time limit..say 15 min. And then "throw" items into the bag. Hope it works for you!
