Diagnosis?

My son is eight. Two years ago the school tried to diagnose him as autistic when he had a serious hearing issue. After his ears were fixed with tubes he was a different kid and was very sociable.

Last year, he was placed with a difficult teacher. She yelled at the kids all day long and he hated her. I wished I would have seen it sooner and asked for him to be moved to a different class as he was in Kindergarten. He stayed in that class even through the last two weeks of school when the teacher made fun of one of his projects which made him very unhappy. He still passed with decent grades.

This year, a new psychologist enters the school district, reviews all previous files and argues with me over his "autism". Now my son has been shy since he had ear tubes. He is very ADHD and has some sensory issues. After this initial conversation I contacted our own insurance company and am paying a private psychologist to work with him. On initial evaluations she didn't think he was autistic. Now I am seeing all kinds of signs of aspergers. He has most of the qualifications for it. I'll be talking to his private psychologist again today to see her thoughts on aspergers. Sigh.

in addition, he was recently seen for hearing problems again. The surgeon that did his ear tubes said that they are detached and coming out soon. There is a chance that he has some permanent hearing loss although hopefully not too much. At this point, his psych has agreed to be at the iep meeting.
