I was just wondering what amount of Folic Acid your doctors/OBs recommened to take if you were trying to get pregnant again, or when you were pregnant....

I was also taking folic acid before I got pregnant and she was born with cleft palate

In my experience I was taking folic acid before I got pregnant with my first and she was born with a cleft lip/palate. I didn't start taking folic acid with my second till I was about 7 weeks pregnant and she had no cleft.

My doctor suggested I take with the prenatal an extra 3x the amount of folic acid. I am guessing it helped since our 2nd - no cleft & it appears the current pregnancy everything looks intact.
