My son is 4 and was born with a cleft of the soft palate. He has two surgeries so far, first one at year old and the second 6 months later, the first surgery did not stay repaired. After a few years of speech therapy his speech is not progressing. Today we can understand a good bit of what he says but a stranger likely would only understand 5-10%. We have seen so much progress in the last year working with speech therapists mutliple times a week, but with elementary school coming soon we were hoping to see him catching up with his peers a little faster. We have found out today that the Dr is recommending a Sphincter Pharyngoplasty. Has anyone had this procedure? I'm not expecting an immediate miracle but we are excited to have something that may help. Would love to hear from anyone that may of had this procedure... we do know it will be a two part process first removing his adnoids.
