My daughter had her palate done in August. Her doctor said puddings jellos soups for a week or 2 then she got to have soft things like french fries and even chicken nuggets that were not hard for another 4 weeks just as long as she did not have anything like crackers or chips or even peanut butter. anything that could stick to the roof of her mouth or poke it were discouraged for 6 wks. It was easy for the first week and a half bc she didnt want anything but liquids

My son was born with a bilateral cleft lip & full cleft palate & had his palate repair at 8 1/2 mths. The operation was a difficult one according to the surgeon & took approx 4 1/2 hrs! He ate jellies & custards straight after the operation & soft baby foods thereafter & has had no problems at all. Good luck - it is a very harrowing time for the parents, but I agree with some of the other comments here - trust your own instincts & that of your sugeon & the nursing support staff.

My daughter was 11 months old when she had her palate repair. She was on a 10 day liquid diet. The Dr basically said whatever goes through her sippy cup u can feed her. She loved the Carnation Breakfast drinks.

They are all different so trust your instincts and your surgeon. My son was born with a complete cleft lip and palate. He had his second op and first palate repair at 7.5 months. He had started solids at about 5.5 months. He had majority liquid (we mixed baby custard in his bottle to thicken up which was great for feeding) but he also had VERY runny normal meals like veges etc. (I took a stick blender to the hospital which turned out great) - it started at just 1 small meal of that per day with the custard milk and by the end of 2 weeks he was back to his normal meals & bottles. The palate repair was much quicker recovery and simpler to deal with than the lip I think. I hope that helps a bit - Best Wishes.

My daughter's cleft palate was repaired at 1 year and she did wonderful. They put her on liquid diet for two weeks. They told me to use Carnation Breakfast drink to give her some calories. Also put alittle baby cereal in the formula.

My son was born with cleft lip/palate, he had his palate surgery done at a little over a year and he did WONDERFUL!!!!
They had him on liquids for about 2 weeks, so i would try and mix it up as much as possible but his favorite was the ramen noodles, because there are so many different flavors!
