My son has a cleft palate and my question is how old was your child when they had their first surgery? My other question is did your baby teeth "late"?

my son is only 2 months now, born with cleft palate only. Thanks for this thread as I had the same question about teething. Feel bad for you and the dr changes. We are going to Boston children's...its about a 4 hour trip...so I would be devistated if the dr and ent changed. lots of luck.

Paige had her first surgery at 6 months. She just had her palate done August 3rd. She is 14 months now and still doesn't have any teeth, nor can I tell if she's teething. We're meeting with a dental team at the end of the month to assess her teeth.

My son had his palate surgery at 11 months. He got his first tooth at 6 months. All kids are different & I don't believe cleft kids get teeth any differently as for the timing of teeth (actually all of my kids got their first tooth at 6 months, & my 2nd & 3rd boys do not have cleft issues). Gosh, I can't remember how many he had by then either. His first surgery was at 3 months for the lip/nose/gumline closure.

That sounds difficult to not know when your son's surgery will be or who the doctors will be, I have a hard time too when everything changes. But I am sure he will be in good hands & it will get repaired.

My son is now 4 1/2 years old & he is a normal boy!

Ps: His cleft surgery was sched. for october 14th but the surgeon we met with decided to take a job in philly so now Daniel is off the sched. and everything is all out of wack. Even better is the ENT that was going to put his tubes in when he got his cleft repaired won't be doing those either. It may seem like a minor issue to most but it's like we met all the doctors and people who'd be handeling the repair and I was able to forget about that part and start coping with the actual surgery and now one by one they keep backing out. Ugh

He's 7 months, 8 on the 9th & thank you. He didn't get the cleft in his lip though, it's only his palate. & i know that babies don't ness. teeth by his age but it just seems like he has been "teething" for so long now that something should have came in you know?

My daughter was 3 mos. old when she had her bi-lateral cleft repaired. and 9 mos. old when she had her palate repaired. And yea she did teethe late, but it was like when she did start teething she got them all at once. Your son is adorable, how old is he? His lip looks great, they did a really good job!

My son was born with both cleft lip and palate, he had his lip repaired at three months and palate done at fourteen months. He had all his teeth for his age except for the one in the space of the cleft, the doctor had to surgically remove that one because it was turned sideways and embedded in bone. I hope that this has answered some of your questions and GOD bless your little one during surgeries.
