Is she currently in physical therapy? What level is her spina bifida? My daughter did not crawl until 18 months; walked with a walker at 2 years, and alone at 4 years! Don't worry...your daughter will have her own time-table for everything!

I have a daughter who is now 6 years old and she too was delayed in speech, but you wouldn't tell that now. She talks and talks all day!!! As for the crawling, what does the doc say? And the level plays a big part in that. But on the other hand, wasn't expecting much from my daughter as far as mobility and she did well with crawling. I believe she was 3 before she really took off. ( she did not pull her body she crawled on hands and knees and still does. Hope this helps. My best advice is to keep trying always and never give up. Also no matter what anyone says, Docs included, go with your heart! If you feel your child can do something, push for that!

UPDATE!!!! Sommer will be three in April she can army crawl now she just drags her legs behind her. She is now able to sit up on her own and can go from sitting to her tummy and from her tummy to sitting. Im praying that when she starts pre school in the fall that she will start talking. Right now she only says a few words mom, dad, yeah, and bye.

My daughter is 4 years old now. She was crawling at 12 months and walking at 2 1/2. She wasn't talking well at all though. She got speech therapy and that helped. She speaks well now but she has trouble processing what you are saying and answering oyou. You never know what each child will do. They all develop differently. Can she move her legs or support weight on them? If she gets early intervention talk to your PT and maybe push for speech. I don't know how it works in your state but once my daughter turned 3 she went into the school system and they are excellent at her pre school. They will be able to address your concerns there too.

Hi, my son Cole is almost 22 months, and he doesn't crawl or sit up on his own. All of our children learn in their own time. Have you asked his neuro doc? The Chiari malformation that affects their brainstem plays a big part in it. My son is also deaf and so learing for him is even harder. She will learn in her own time. Don't give up!!

my son has spina bifida L4, he just turned 12 months old. just reciently he can push himself backwards but doent quite officially crawl. I think it depends on were the leasion was at birth and what nerves were affected. Is she recieving any Phycical Theropy? or in any programs for her disability like DDD, or early intravention? heve faith in her. put her on the floor on her tummy alot more, let her see everyone around her moving to try to motivate her. well thats what I do with my son anyway.

All of the angels with Spina Bifida have different times and ways of doing things, every single case is unique, I've yet to find two children that are exactly the same in every way, it's like a bonus personality trait.

My son didn't start crawling till he was 16 months, he is expected to walk and his pediatrician doesn't see anything that should be holding him back, but he was still a little delayed. Yet he has severe Arnold Chiari Malformation, which the doctors said would slow or impede his brain development yet he's got an extensive vocabulary and comprehension of everything you say that his therapist says is more like a child approaching three.

So who knows, I wish I could give you some more advice but, I guess other than consulting your doctors about your concerns you just have to play it by ear.
