Hello, my son's pediatrician was upset when I chose not to give him the H1N1 shot. What are your opinions on that?! He technically was 6 months, but being a preemie he should've only been 2 and with his immune system not being up to par I felt as if it wasn't safe. He was tottally rude about it and when I went to the hospital to get blood work for him drawn the doctor there said I made a good choice. Not even a week later they said that the H1N1 they injected all babies 6mos- 3yrs weren't effective, so he is asking me again. I still say no but my mother-in-law says I should get more opinions since he is a special case with being premature. I have done some research and it says they still don't know any long term effects which scare me. What are your opinions?

Hi, my husband I were the same way. My daughter was a 26 weeker and at her 6 month check up the Dr pushed us to get it. We did not want her to have it. I agree with you and I think there has not been enough reserach for long term results.

My daughter got both h1n1 shots- my pediatrician highly reccommended it because preemies are at the highest risk due to their immune defenses being low. I too was nervous about the whole vaccine controversy, but ultimately decided for the shots. The first does did get recalled (the dose wasn't high enough). I was too scared of all the h1n1 death reports.

I took my chances & decided not to get my little one vaccinated. She is a 24 weeker, now 15 months. My pediatrician said we'd actually be at a higher risk waiting for hours at a clinic vs getting her the vaccine. He also told me that next year the swine flu & flu vaccine will be a combined vaccine! We still stick to the strict rule of everyone handwashing before they handle her, so far so good. She hasn't had so much as a cold since she came home last March! Good luck to you, whatever decision you make :)

My son got the first half of his H1N1 vaccine. I have to admit that I almost felt guilted into doing it, not by family or docs (my doc said that the vaccine was safe but that it was our choice) but by the media. I usually only believe half of what the media shoves in our faces but this time they did a good job of scaring me so I took him to get it done. He got the first half in late Nov and was supposed to go back in Dec for the other half, we never went. There was a recall here (I'm in Canda) on a batch of the vaccine and I refused to take my son back. Now they're saying that the may have overblown the severity of H1N1. I'm not sorry that he had the first half (he had no side effects) but I'm glad we didn't go for the second half.
