My little girl actually vomits up to around 5 times a week when eating, espcially if the food is slightly soft and lumpy (?texture issues). She vomits mainly when she has a cough or has something stuck in the back of her throat, I also believe she has a really sensitive gag reflex. Does anyone elses child vomit with different textured foods etc. I've seen her doctor and he has suggested I puree her food for a while, and to review in 2 weeks.

My 16 month old refuses to eat most table foods. When I do get him to eat if he eats too much, he throws it all up. He was born at 32 weeks also.

Kaylee had and continues to have the same issue. She is 24 months and her doc just thinks that she has a sensitive gag. She is getting better but just tues she got sick because she did not like the taste of the apple she was eating. I call her the queen of vomit. Good luck. I can tell you it gets better. Kaylee gets sick one or two times in a two week period. Much better than everytime she ate or if I looked at her wrong she would get sick.

Kaylee also got help from OT.

Heidi, I had 35 weeker girl/boy twins. Patrick had a similar problem (now 2 1/2 yrs). They did a Barium Swallow test (as Brandi mentioned also). We discovered that he takes smaller half swallows and that the food pools in the back of his mouth and he ends up gagging on it. He also tends to vomit when he has a cough or is mucousy. He was diagnosed with Asthma around 15 months. Once he was on the inhalers and his asthma was well controlled, then he only seemed to gag when he doesn't completely swallow his food. I do believe that he also has some texture issues but they are considered mild and am having difficulty getting him assessed (waiting on referrals).

To be honest, it sounds like she needs further assessment. How old is she?

kaden has the same issue...he used to gag on everything he was 15 m old and still on stage one and two foods....his OT was great and we worked on his texture issues....his issues were to the point that he couldnt touch things without gagging...he has just started to eat "normal" food and he will be 3 in may...kaden also had a swallow study done and it showed that he has a weak swallow and it pools in the back of his mouth...so with the help of his OT he had vital stim done which allowed him to strenghten his muscles and hes doing well now.....the advise i have is to keep trying and cut things smaller it may take some time
