I have now had 2 premature babies, both earlier than 30 weeks, I want another child soon, but I am worried that I will have another preemie. The thing is though, My recent baby Silas, his early birth could have been prevented. The doctor said he was going to send me to get a Cerclage (cervical stitch) but did not. He is known for neglecting patients. I was wondering if I go somewhere else, like a high risk clinic, would they be able to help me get to full term? I AM pregnant again and will do whatever it takes to go full term. Thank you everyone who helps.

My first child was 27 weeks....preterm labor started at 19 weeks i was given tributaline dr sent me to high risk doctor.... at 27 weeks went in and had pre eclampsia and admitted.... I was getting worse so csection was done. 1lb 7oz....
2nd child went back to my obgyn, he didnt want to see me due to my history... went to same high risk specialist... preterm labor at 19 wks...tributaline.....born at 31 weeks vaginal 4lbs 1oz... no explanation. 3rd child same pre term labor at 19 weeks...gestational diabetes...tributaline....born 31 weeks 4lbs 2oz vaginal.. no explanation. 4th child.... new doc....15 wks performed cerclage 19weeks pre term labor...born 34weeks cerclage did not prevent labor...ended up haveing c section and tubal ligation... 3 boys and little girl finally.

I would recommend seeing another doctor... you should be able to trust your doctor knows whats best, but if yu have doubts you should see another doctor and see what they would suggest... the possible issues in the future are to great to overlook. You will feel better about any outcomes if you know you done everything you could and you have full trust in your doctor you choose.

Here's what I was told about having a cerclage done (my son was born at 25 weeks 5 days due to an incompitant cervic). The cerclage is a preventative messure, it's not a guarantee. The cerclage would be put in after the first trimester and then complete bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy. In case of premature labour the cerclage would have to come out right away because it will cause tearing, even if labour is stopped the cerclage would not be put in again. If the pregnancy lasts to 37 weeks then the cerclage would be removed and labour induced - only a very few woman actually make it to 37 weeks.

That's what I was told by my doctor, another doctor may have a different opinion. Finding a high risk clinic or doctor would be your best bet.

I'm not trying to scare you but something else I was told, and it may factor into what's happened to you, is that once you have a preemie you have a 40% chance of your next child being premature and the % goes up every pregnancy afterwards.

Going to a high risk clinic may not get you to full term but it's the best choice considering the fact that you've had preemies. They can monitor you and get you close enough to the due date if not to the due date with your pregnancy
