If you've had a baby born between 34-37 weeks how big were they, any complications, and any NICU time? Thanks for sharing!

My son was born at 36 weeks and he weighed 5 pounds 7ounces. He was in the Nciu for a week where he was put on cpap for a day and a half and fed with fats for 2 days and then fed through a feeding tube and he was put in the peadeatric for another week. He was born with water on his lungs and didn't have the sucking reflex. We learned 2 days after he was let out of the hospital that he has a heart defect

Idiopathic preterm labor...BUT I have since been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and celiac disease which can contribute to preterm births - had multiple miscarriages as well...

My preemies were born in 1987.1989,1998 - thought it might be interesting to post about grown up kids :)

My 3 sons were 34 weeks 6lb8oz - 32 weeks 5 days 7lb4 1/2oz - 33 weeks 2 days 7lb 5 1/2oz

The first two were born before surfactant.

34 weeker and I stayed 5 days - he had suck-swallow problems, latching problems, and severe jaundice. I had two sets of Betamethasone injections following 1st onset of preterm labor at 30 weeks. He is 25 years 6ft 1" 170lbs - LOL. He had some learning and emotional issues, but has graduated from college and is gainfully employed. He talked at 5 months, complete sentences by 9 months, but didn't walk until 15 months. He does triathalons now.

32 weeker stayed 10 days.Mostly because of jaundice, and temp issues. I had three sets of Betamethasone injections following 1st onset of preterm labor at 26 weeks He is an employed economist, speaks a couple of languages, and lacks only a 2 hour GYM class to get his Bachelor's degree. He captained the laCrosse team in high school, and is now 23 years, 6ft 5" 170Lbs. He also spoke very early, like a 5 year old at 18 mo., but walked very late. Picked a fight with his older brother and got him in trouble - LOL - at 4 months!

This child was noticeably delayed until 3mos - smiling, staying awake, physical milestones, etc, and then BAM, he took off.

33 weeker was trouble! In spite of steroids and constant in utero stress, he was on a vent, CPAP, had a PDA that wouldn't close, couldn't eat. Without surfactant, he would have died of hyaline membrane disease. He weighed 5lbs when I brought him home after 8 days. He slept in a battery powered swing for 9 months - only thing that helped with reflux. He also spoke very early, and walked very late. He is 14, 5ft 9" 130lbs, just started high school, and would be starting Quarterback, but broke his wrist messing around the other day!

Happy to answer questions.

My son was born at exactly 36 weeks. I started going into labor around 30 weeks but they managed to hold off until 36. I had a normal delivery except there were a whole lot of nurses and doctors filling the room. He had some breathing trouble at first and was taken to the NICU but they released him after 7 hours. Other than that he was perfectly healthy!

Ive got two children both born at 36 weeks, emergency caesarian due to me having pre-eclampsia. I was promised by a doctor that wouldn't get it again after I had my first daughter but lo and behold I had a midwife check at 35 weeks high blood pressure and protein in my wee. I couldn't believe it petrified isn't the word. I had to be rushed to hospital. My daughter was born 3lb & 7oz and my son was 3lb born then he dropped to 2lb 7oz straight to nicu. They are both healthy children but I would say my daughter still looks smaller compared to other children her age. It will be her 6 birthday soon and my son is now 16 month doing really well. never again though I was warned not to have anymore children because of the effect the pre-eclampsia has had on my body.

my baby was born at 37 weeks and she was delivered by C-Section she was turning purple as soon as she came out so straight to NICU where she stoped breathing completly and she went into this deep sleep mode as the doctors call it she was unresponsive to everything they were doing so by the time i was able to see her she had tubes running through her bellybutton IVS inher little frigel hand and lifeless for four days and then they started caffieen drips she started to come around but something was still not right she would tense up and shake really bad and when i asked if the was normal they gave me the run around and a 75% chance of her living it was all up to the power of GOD and he showed me that he does exists well she spent a week and ahalf in that cold dark NICU but her mother and grandmother were there with her every step of the way with her and now she 22 monthes old with alittle bit of delays of her cognitive mental state thank very much for listening

My daughter was born 34 weeks and 5 days. She stayed in the NICU for 2 weeks. She was born 5lbs 3oz. She was actually very healthy, breathing on her own, she can keep her temp. But she was on antibiotics and it took her some time to learn how to eat. She also had jondice. But she is home and doing well=)

I have had six preemies. My 34-37 weekers were 4-11, 5-0, 5-5, and 6lbs. The 34&34 weeke babies stayed for 9-12 days. Surprisingly, my 37 week daughter stayed for two weeks. Complications were mostly jaundice and learning to breast feed. One had apnea and came home with a monitor.

i had my son at 34 weeks. He weighed 3 pounds 14 ounces and was 16 inches long. He dropped to 3 pounds 7 ounces before he started gaining weight. He has been in the NICU for one week now. I am not sure when he will get to come home; He has to weigh 4 pounds 8 ounces to 5 pounds before they discharge babies and they have to be taking a bottle at every feeding. They give him one bottle per 12 hour shift right now and they feed him through a feeding tube the other times although i think he would take a bottle every time because he is doing so well. So whenever he gains some weight and starts keeping his body temp better they will let him come home...hopefully it isn't too much longer!

my daughter was born at 35 weeks and 5 days, she was a chunkers though weighed 7 pounds. Born via emergency c-section. She stayed in NICU for only 4 hours because of low blood sugar. The perinatologist wanted to deliver her at 34 weeks, but he thought if we could keep her to 40 weeks she would be almost 11 pounds. She is still a little chunkers. No complications thank God! I was so worried and being a Nurse made it worse.

Sheila was born @ 35 wks and 1 day gestation. 3 lbs 12 oz. 16" long. She left the NICU a week shy from one month. There were no complications related to being born too early(I had to be induced), however, she only has one fully developed kidney-that was due to her developement. I was induced due to very severe eclampsia and an existing heart condition. It was more of a threat to my health to carry full term at that point. Not exactly the way I wanted things to turn out, but today she is a very healthy 8 month old, and had the Doctors not intervened I or both of us would not be here.

Hello, Back in 2005 my daughter was born at 35 weeks 6 days weighing at at 5pnds 8oz. She did very well. No complications. She came home with us. I did have the shot to up her lung process and I think that had a lot to do with it. Then in 2008 my 2nd daughter was born at 28 weeks gestation. She was 2pnds 12oz and had to stay in the NICU for 2 months. She did great just small. This was all due to femine complications with me. I was on bed rest with both pregnancy's. Hope this helps! If youhave any other questions feel free to ask. Best wishes! Maria

my daughter was born at 35 weeks and 6 days after 3 days in induced labour. She was born by emergency c-section, weighing 5lb8oz. She was on oxygen for the first 12 hours and spent only the first 30 hours in nicu, although she had to visit twice each day for medication. by day 3 she had lost over a pound (down to 4lb7oz and was told she either goes back to neonatal or she has a bottle to try get the formula into her (she fell asleep on the boob so expressed as much as we could but had bad milk supply) from then on she started gaining weight, and we were aloud to go home after 7 days (only because of my begging as i i had been in hospital for 13 days) She has been back in hospital once for a unknown infection and has had 2 cheast infections (she is not quite 6 months old) and she does have some small breathing difficulties

My daughter was born at 34 weeks but she had stopped growing at 29 weeks. She was 2lbs 6.5oz and stayed in the NICU for a month. We were lucky because she acted 34 weeks not 29. She only had problems keeping her sugar levels even. She spent so much time in the NICU because she was so small. They would not let her leave until she was 4lbs. I am very thankful she was just small. She is home now and almost 4 months old and almost 9lbs.

my first daughter was born at 36 weeks by emergency c section after 17 hours of induced labor. , she was 4 lbs 11 oz. 18 in. she was early due to preclamsia and toxemia and a high potassium level in me( spelling.. i know!). during labor both our blood pressures dropped suddenly 3 times. she only spend 4 days in the nicu due to an iv drip and observation due to her weight. My second daughter was born at 34 1/2 weeks by emergency c section because of no fluid around her. ( i can't remember the technical name of it) she weighted 6 lbs. 6 oz. 18 in. she spent 4 days in the nicu because of jaundis, to high billyrubin and slight anemia. after i brought her home i had to go to the hospital for 4 days after to get blood work on her to make sure her billyrubin count went down. luckly with both my girls i was able to get steroid shots at least a month before they were born so that it helped with their lung development incase of early delivery. both are healthy, happy and to smart for there own good! :)

She was a little jaundiced, but not too bad. She was in NICU for 2 weekz. She is now 9 monthz nd still kinda small for her age nd i think shez a little behind on learning thingz, but other than tht shez a very healthy, happy baby.

My daugher was born the day I hit 37 weeks which was the only reason I did not have to get shipped somewhere else to deliver. I ended up having pre-eclampsia and really high blood pressure so was put on bed rest until my due date. My first week I was in the hospital and my bp never looked good because I could not calm down while I was there and my second week I was able to be at home. She had turned breach the week before while I was in the hospital on bed rest because of all the stress I had from being in there so I ended up having an emergency c-section. Didn't need any NICU time but we were worried at first because she had clicks in her hips and has torticolius that we are still working on but continually gets better the more she can hold her head on her own.

I do believe in the steroid shot I had two shots with both girls and that is what kept them from having breathing problems. It speeds up the lung process:)

My youngest twin has a PDA..Patent Ductus Arterious (condintion of the heart) she had surgery back in April..no open heart surgery but a catherzation through her upper thigh vein. She recovered very well..and you would of never thought she had surgery. The oldest twin stayed in the NICU for 1 week and the youngest stayed for 1 week and a few days.

I just had my second preemie baby in July! My son, Devin, was born at 34 weeks. I had steroid shots at 26 weeks which I think helped his lungs immensely since he could breathe on his own since day one. When he was born, he weighed 3 lbs. 13 oz. Other than being a little jaundice, he only spent one week in the NICU. Since this was my second preemie, I found that I didn't worry as much about whether he would be ok. Compared to my first pregnancy, this one was a piece of cake! Today, he has no problems at all and is growing like a weed!

My first child was born at 26 weeks. I had alot of complications with that pregnancy. I bled throughout my 1st trimester, constantly thinking I was going to miscarry. At 20 weeks during a routine ultrasound, I found that I was 2 cm dialated. I was rushed into the operating room and had a cervical cerclage placed. From that point on, I was on strict bedrest. I also developed gestational diabetes. Finally at 26 weeks I went into preterm labor and had a 2 lb 2 oz baby girl. She was med flighted to the NICU and stayed there for 2 months. Today, you can't even tell she was preemie! She is so tall!!!

Hope these are encouraging words to all of you!

My daughter was born at 34 wks + 3 ds and only weighed 3lbs 15oz. She spent 2 weeks in the NICU & then was moved to the ISCC/Nursery for a little over a week, but yesterday night her tummy was a little distended and they decided to do some xrays/labs...she is currently back in the NICU for closer observation. Right now they are saying that she just has alot of air in her tummy & are using a tube, through the mouth, to suction out extra tummy air and not allowing her to feed in the meanwhile. She hasn't had any other issues & seems to just be a little small for her gest., she also was jaundiced, which is normal for preemies. Her main reason for remaining in the hospital, prior to her distended tummy, was her need to learn good eating habits, as she tends to fall asleep during feedings & loose her latch, which causes a little frustration on her end... :) She is now 4lbs 11oz @ 38 wks + 1d today...
